West Region Safety Manager
Allied Waste is a Fortune 500 company working in solid waste removal. We are the second largest waste company in the United States. We are seeking a highly motivated and skill Safety professional to fill our West Region Safety Manager position in Pleasanton (Bay Area) California. The successful candidate must possess the noted skills to deliver state of the art Safety programs to the 4,000+ employees in the Region. The qualifications we desire are:
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the implementation and success of safety and health programs within an assigned Region.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Works closely with the corporate Safety & Compliance Departments for all matters beyond the scope of basic day-to-day personnel/compliance administration.
· Disseminates, implements, and monitors corporate policies, standards and procedures in the areas of safety and regulatory standards.
· Directs and prepares statistical data or background material for management reports on a regular basis as required.
· Manages, trains and develops Safety Managers and Division Safety Representatives for efficiency and self-reliance.
· Oversees the Safety Managers in the implementation and management of safety training programs within the Region.
· Monitors “loss control” training needs based on evaluated losses and Region and/or Corporate direction.
· Reviews and monitors Regional accident data accuracy.
· Calculates Regional loss rates Monitors random facility audits and reviews corrective action plans (CAP’s) to ensure timely compliance.
· Oversees Regional insurance claims and works with the insurance company to resolve open claims.
· Facilitates in the gathering of Safety related information/data during the due diligence process for all acquisition activities within the Region.
· Responds to and/or facilitates the investigation of all serious accidents and injuries within the Region.
· Monitors the completion of Regional OSHA 300 logs and DOT reportable accidents and drug/alcohol policies and procedures.
· Advises Regional Vice President and Corporate Safety and Compliance staff if policies, compliance, or procedures are not being followed throughout the Region.
· Coordinates with Regional Human Resources Manager regarding the Regional drug/alcohol program, taking primary responsibility for random drug testing, and assures compliance with DOT, State and Federal regulations and company policy.
· Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS:
Required:
· Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health or related field required.
· Minimum 5 to 8 years of experience as Safety or Compliance Manager involved in all aspects of Safety, including compliance, policy and procedure development, OSHA, DOT, EPA, loss control and workers’ compensation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
· Thorough knowledge of federal, state DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations that apply to the Region.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
· Effective interpersonal communication across various levels of the organization.
· Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks.
· Must be able to complete projects and assignments with minimal supervision.
· Strong motivational, coaching, teaching and leadership skills.
Machines, Tools, Equipment and Software USED:
· Usual office equipment including computer, phone, fax machine, copier and calculator.
· MS Office including Word and Excel
ENVIRONMENTAL/ATMOSPHERIC WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Usual office environment
· Travel by air/car required a minimum of 50% of the time, possibly requiring overnight stays
· Field site visits to refuse hauling companies, landfills, transfer stations and recycle centers
