Mechanic
Allied Waste is seeking a highly qualified mechanic to join our maintenance team in Milpitas, CA landfill.The successful candidate will work on stationary and heavy equipment. There is a $500.00 signing bonus and the hourly wages will be between $24-29 per hour, depending on experience.
POSITION SUMMARY:Operates machines and/or equipment at a recyclery, hauling operations or transfer station.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITY:
Performs pre-operation/post operation of equipment.
Safely and productively operates equipment including forklift, sweeper, baler.
Monitor area for pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
Identify and deposits waste into appropriate piles and stacks baled trash.
Loads the transfer truck with a front end loader and ensures fillness by packing waste down the bucket.
Regulate tonnage into transfer trailer.
Continuously monitors equipment to ensure proper operation and minimal down time.
Continually observes packed waste for signs of hazardous waste, fire, smoldering, etc.
Performs minor service on equipment.
Adheres to safety programs.
Performs other job related duties as assigned.

· Ability to discern color sufficiently to interpret warning lights.
· Ability to lift up to 35 pounds, carry up to 50 pounds, and push/pull up to 50 pounds.
· Physical mobility to climb into and out of truck and clean up spills.
· Ability to fully and effectively use hand and power tools.
· Ability to tolerate confined spaces for extended periods of time.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION:
Required:
· High school diploma or general education degree.
· 1 year of related heavy equipment maintenance.
· Valid drivers license required.
Preferred:
· Mechanical or trade school certificate preferred.
· Certificate in electronic diagnostics preferred.
· ASE certificate preferred
An equivalent combination of education, experience and certification may be considered.

· Personal Protective Equipment including dust mask, earplugs, gloves, hard hat, respirator, safety glasses, work boots, and safety vest.
· Hand tools including hammer, pliers, screwdriver, wrenches and other various tools.
· Vehicles including D8 dozer, forklift, loader, skid loader and parts truck.
· Machines including jacks/stands, wire feed welder and other power tools.
ENVIRONMENTAL/ATMOSPHERIC WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Risks associated with working around machines, tools and heavy equipment.
· Exposure to chemicals, solvents, dust, fumes or other waste.
· Occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions.
