Veterinary Technician

Extremely fast-paced feline only clinic seeks full time Veterinary Technician.  Experience preferred but will train an enthusiastic candidate who is passionate about animals and wants to learn a new field.

 

Job Purpose:

Provides animal care by assisting with examinations and diagnostic procedures; assisting during surgeries; feeding and caring for animals (cats); maintaining records.

 

Duties:

*Review and complete treatment charts; completing laboratory tests, fecal examinations, urinalysis, and taking x-rays.

 

*Cares for patients by taking vital signs; collecting samples; administering medications, drugs, and vaccines; filling prescriptions; bandaging and wrapping wounds; giving SQ fluids.

 

*Assists with patient examinations by assembling required supplies and instruments; restraining animals; providing assistance as directed; educating owners on a variety of behavioral and medical topics.

 

*Assists with surgeries such as spays, neuters, and dental cleanings by assembling required supplies and instruments; setting up surgery table instruments; restraining animals; administering anesthesia; operating and monitoring anesthetic machines; preparing surgical site; placing catheters; cleaning up post-surgical site; maintaining sterile conditions; obtaining and verifying medications.

 

*Maintains patients by feeding and watering animals; cleaning animals' rooms, cages, and equipment; changing cages; observing for clinical signs of disease.

 

*Maintains safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments; sanitizing and disinfecting holding and operating areas; storing sterile supplies; verifying shelf life; following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.

 

* Maintains patient records by documenting animal conditions, reactions, and changes.

 

*Maintains equipment by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining equipment supplies; performing preventive maintenance.

 

*Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional journals.

 

*Enhances clinic reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Will Train:

Knowledge of animal behavior, clinical skills, creating a safe, effective environment, performing  diagnostic procedures, use of medical technologies, knowledge of animal husbandry, and proper restraint techniques.
