Veterinary Receptionist and Veterinary Assistant
We are hiring two (2) part-time employees: One veterinary assistant and one afternoon/weekend receptionist.
Receptionist will work 2PM through 6PM M,Tu,W, and Fri as well as 8:30AM-12 Noon Saturdays (19.5 hours).
Assistant will work M-F 8AM to 12Noon.
Of course, anyone can apply, but I picture these two jobs being perfect for college students (especially if you are going to Quad-C which is just down the street from the hospital) or house moms. The listed hours would also allow for someone to take morning or evening classes while working here.
We are a 100% small animal hospital in practice at this location for 22 years and will (possibly) be relocating locally in the near future.
We are a small office . . . . only 4 or 5 employees. We are seeking long-term, permanent employees only. This is NOT a "transition" job. If you are seeking "some income" until something "better comes along" . . . . please . . . . don't bother to apply.
You must have good people skills, not be offensive to the public, be open, friendly, likeable, and pleasant. You must speak english clearly and effectively and understand it completely, but also speaking Spanish would be an asset.
You must be able to follow directions carefully. You must be self-directed and able to keep busy without supervision.
Clock watchers and gossips are not welcomed. People who are often "ill" are not welcomed.
Experience greatly appreciated and preferred but not essential. You may not be afraid of or allergic to dogs or cats. You must be strong enough and large enough to restrain large, unhappy dogs. You must be emotionally mature enough to handle euthanasias.
The assistant, among other things will help the doctor see patients, enter orders in the computer, clean the hospital, assist with patient releases and admissions, receive and store orders, assist with out patients, assist with surgery and dentistry, assist with X-rays, and morning kennel duties.
The afternoon receptionist will answer phones, make appointments, take payments, calculate charges, sell products, answer questions, and help out wherever and whenever help is needed.
Benefits for Part time employees (after probation of 60 days) include discounted services and supplies for their personal pets, receive "gas money" with each paycheck, have 6 paid holidays, receive free snacks and beverages at work.
Days off and vacations are strongly discouraged because of the small size of the staff.
Yearly COLA adjustments are made and anniversary bonuses given. We do not give "raises" for longevity.
Please do the math . . . $8-9 per hour . . . . 20 hours per week . . . . for a total of about $160-$180 per week (plus a bit for gas). That means this is a part time job and pays about $9000 per year. Don't embarass yourself by submitting a resume with greater than $9000 salary requested or full time position requested. That will only demonstrate that you are not capable of following instructions and we will not even respond. Please . . . . . . . don't waste your time or ours.
You must live near the animal hospital. If you live more than 5 miles or so from the hospital, don't bother to apply. If you are driving any further, you will quickly tire of the commute and leave. If you live more than 5 or so miles away, please consider CAREFULLY your intention to remain with us long term.
If you have children, you must have proper day care or supervision arranged in advance including a back-up plan for illnesses and appointments (which does not include not going to work).
You must have reliable transportation.
You must be willing to make our animal hospital a top priority in your life.
