Level 3 is currently recruiting for an OSP Technician III.

 

Responsibilities:

This individual will be responsible for maintaining Level 3's Birmingham Synergy Sites and outside plant network in Metro Birmingham, Alabama. This includes the fiber, ILA’s EUB’s, POP’s, and LEC Colo’s. He/she will be responsible for Cable Locates, Route Patrol and Fiber Failure Restoration.

 

Essential Functions:
Maintains electronic equipment used for long distance telecommunications including, but not limited to: Fiber optic transmissions equipment, lightwave multiplexing equipment, digital multiplexers, channel banks, circuit termination equipment, AC and DC power equipment.
Protects fiber optic cables including locating, pot holing, ROW patrol and damage prevention activities.

Troubleshoots equipment and network problems, removes and replaces defective modules, tracks spares and ensures repair.
Performs preventative/scheduled maintenance and inspections on ILA/3R facilities and equipment. Maintains site security and cleanliness. 
Installs equipment in support of network and customer requirements.
Interacts with customers and contractors to provide a high level of customer satisfaction.

Works with ROW Agencies, Railroad entities and private landowners to ensure fiber-optic underground facility is properly maintained.
Completes work orders, trouble tickets, and maintenance tickets efficiently to provide optimal metrics in OTP, MTTR, and maintenance activities.

 

Experience:
5+ Years experience in an Outside Plant and/or Data Center environment.

Must have a working knowledge of personal computers and common software, ability to perform monthly preventative maintenance and replace defective telecom equipment. Knowledge of OTDR test equipment, mass fusion splicing and single fiber optic fusion splicing, Nortel equipment, GN Nettest - OTDR, and Radio Detection locator preferred.

Preferred candidates posses excellent coaching, managerial, and leadership skills.

 

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 100 pounds. Must have the ability to identify and discern colors for maintenance and repair of fiber optic cable and switching equipment. Must have the ability to use common hand tools. Must have a valid, unencumbered state driver’s license. Must be able to obtain Government Security Clearance.
