Description:
Our client is seeking a Cisco Network Engineer to work with all aspects of their LANWAN infrastructure. This position is responsible for the design, integration, operation and management of IP networks, linking a variety of platforms, operating systems, network topologies and network protocols. Provides technical support by analyzing hardware and/or software data, identifying the root cause of the problem and developing/implementing hardware and/or software solutions.
Responsibilities:
-Provide design, engineering and maintenance assistance on the LAN / WAN infrastructure.
-Provide consultation, evaluation, installation and testing of network devices and network management systems to include Ethernet, routers, hubs, switches, bridges, firewalls and VPN manufactured by Cisco, Juniper Networks and other vendors in a heterogeneous multi-protocol IP environment.
-Install, create, troubleshoot devices on our client’s backbone and WAN infrastructure which is comprised of fiber optic, twisted pair and broadband links.
-Consult, analyze, design, install, test and recommend proper materials for the backbone network.
-Oversees the installation, moves, repairs, and removal of WAN circuits as offices changes and business needs change
Skills and Leadership requirements:
-3+ years in a Cisco Engineering role
-Proven skill in analyzing, designing, supporting and troubleshooting fiber optic, twisted pair and broadband networks using Cisco modular and fixed configuration switches such as 6500 series, 4500 series and 3750 series.
-Knowledge of and skilled with TCP/IP, SNMP and IPX as well as routing protocols IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, RIP and VoIP concepts. In-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol suite in particular.
-Knowledge of Juniper SSL VPN and Juniper firewalls a must.
-Proven in-depth experience in proper configuration and troubleshooting of Cisco's modular and fixed configuration switches and modules. Advanced knowledge of and skilled with data communications hubs, switches, routers, bridges and remote-access systems to include the architecture and performance characteristics of modular and fixed configuration switches.
-Ability to set priorities to be self-directed based on relative importance of job responsibilities.
-Proven skill in systematically analyzing and coordinating the ordering and receipt of materials and supplies needed for installation of fiber optic, twisted pair and broadband LAN / WAN connections.
-Skilled in communicating with departmental and corporate management, including high-level technical professionals, on matters where corporate objectives and data communication systems are involved.
-Ability to be on call and available after-hours for support and implementation schedules.
-Excellent at Multi-tasking
-Ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift objects of up to 50 lbs. Extended PC and keyboard use may be required.
