ABOUT BARKSDALE:

Barksdale Control Products is a subsidiary of Crane Co. and reports to the corporation through the Controls Group segment of businesses.  Barksdale is a world-wide producer of a broad range of engineered control products – air suspension and directional control valves, pressure, temperature, level, and solid-state switches, transducers, transmitters, flow controls and instrumentation for industrial niche markets. Barksdale has product leadership within the Oil & Gas, Transportation, Factory Automation, Construction & Mining and Marine markets. Barksdale products are sold world-wide through a direct sales force and a network of channel partners.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Lead and manage purchasing and planning functions, research product availability, delivery dates and pricing; coordinate the inspection of parts priorities, communicate production delays as needed and determine root cause for department issues and perform related work as assigned.

 

Interacts with various internal departments to support timely customer order shipments; interacts with external vendors for inventory and cost controls.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Oversees and coordinates with vendors and other departments to ensure and verify product specifications, availability, pricing and delivery dates. Follow-up on the status of outstanding orders and investigates problems and delays. Makes recommendations to resolve supplier issues.Coordinates major purchase orders for raw materials and components.  Conducts comparative pricing surveys to obtain materials and products at lowest cost and makes recommendations as appropriate to control costs and inventory levels.  Expedites and follows up on purchase orders with suppliers and supplier’s corrective action request.Manages the MRP master file database as it relates to the planning and purchasing function.Participates as a member of the Material Review Board (MRB) and attends professional development and committee meetings as necessary.Coordinates inventory with Shipping/Receiving Supervisor. Develops operating plans for inventory and supplier purchase levels.Coordinates with Senior Purchasing Agents to develop supplier performance criteria and results.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/EDUCATION:

Required: Five (5) years or more of considerable experience involving purchasing, material acquisition and planning.  Experience using an ERP System plus supervisory experience in and Industrial environment.  Must have experience in knowledge Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent experience in a related field.

 

Certified or working towards certification with APICS or as a CPIM.

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Lean principles, MRP Concepts, cycle counting procedures, Kanban methodologies, supervising, training and evaluation principles and practices (in an industrial environment).  

 

SKILLS:

Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Use purchasing materials; prepare and update purchasing and material management records and reports; use planning and inventory control systems; procedures on inspection, quality assurance, safety requirements and shipping practices, methods and procedures; negotiate effectively with vendors concerning product availability, optimum pricing, scheduling and delivery dates; research purchase item specifications; perform math computations quickly and accurately; organize and complete work as scheduled; understand and follow written and verbal instructions; Effective communicate and work with co-workers, and all levels of management and vendors.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Some travel may be required up to 25%.
