Head Women's Volleyball Coach/Instructor

Essential Functions of Position 

In conformance with all State, League and District policies and regulations:  provide direction for all facets of a successful college volleyball program, including the selection and direct supervision of assistant coaches and the general supervision of other support staff (trainer, equipment manager, etc.); develop and implement a strong student/athlete recruitment program for volleyball, including recruiting assignments of all assistant coaches, as appropriate; assist in building strong relations between the community and the athletic department, particularly with the high schools of the District; work with the athletic counselor in assisting student athletes complete their academic requirements at the community college to transfer to four-year institutions; develop and implement appropriate fundraising activities in accordance with College and District policies; additional spring assignment that may include head/assistant coaching; teach courses as assigned within the Physical Education/Health and Recreation Department, depending on qualifications and experience; and otherwise fulfill all duties and responsibilities required of full-time instructional staff. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Include a Master's degree in physical education, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, or adaptive physical education or a Bachelor's degree in any of the above and a Master's degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy or a valid California Community College Credential, or the equivalent education and/or experience.

 

Desirable Qualifications 

Include extent of successful high school/community college/university level volleyball coaching experience; extent of athletic recruiting experience; extent of fundraising experience; extent of involvement in community organizations and activities; extent of related work and professional experience; teaching experience; knowledge of the community college and its mission; experience working with a diverse student population; and demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively with students and staff. 

 

Conditions of Employment

177 duty days per year.

 

Salary and Benefits

$46,183 - $69,531 based on education and experience.  A doctoral stipend of $1,728 is available.  In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including health, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance as well as disability coverage for employees.

Ø If your degree is (degrees are) not exactly as stated in the minimum qualifications paragraph of the job announcement but you believe you possess equivalent qualifications, or, if the required degree is (degrees are) not posted on your transcript(s) at the time of application, you must complete the Petition for Equivalency Form.  This petition will be forwarded to a review board and a determination will be made before you are allowed to proceed in the selection process.  Failure to complete this form, when needed, will result in an incomplete application that will not be sent to the selection committee.

 

Ø Three letters of recommendation (unless three such up-to-date references are included in a placement file) are required.  The letters should be written by persons having firsthand knowledge of your professional qualifications, experience, abilities, and character and should be dated no more than three years prior to the filing deadline.

 

Ø Supplemental Questionnaire – Please complete and return the supplemental questionnaire by the filing deadline, in addition to all other required material.

Selection Procedure

Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

 

From the applicants who meet the basic qualifications, a selection committee will determine the candidates that meet the highest degree of desirable qualifications.  They will be invited to interview.  Interviewees may be asked to conduct a short teaching demonstration. 

 

The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions and the teaching demonstration (if applicable).  Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”.  A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President or Vice Chancellor and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
