With the completion of our new world class Research facility in early 2008, this position will relocate to Pleasanton, California.

Lab Tech II

The successful candidate will process dirty and/or bio-contaminated labware as part of an internal service group that provides excellent scientific support to PCR Research and Development staff.

Key functions include picking up dirty and/or bio-contaminated labware from R&D laboratories, processing stock labware following written procedures (decontamination, washing, sterilizing, prepping and inspection) and processing custom glassware orders for scientific staff under minimal supervision.  Duties involve operating/maintaining labware processing equipment and reporting malfunctions to the Supervisor.  Additional responsibilities include serving as a resource to scientific staff on labware processing procedures, maintaining the general supply of glassware, and delivering specialized labware to designated areas.  Assist Supervisor with administrative functions (generate purchase requisitions, assemble/input productivity data and maintain required documentation).  May be asked to orient/train new employees, carry out experiments for improving/developing standard operating procedures, and evaluate new products.

We are in search of a candidate possessing a high school diploma and at least 1 year of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).  An AA degree may count towards experience requirement.  Must be able to follow Good Laboratory Practices, laboratory safety regulations, and established departmental procedures.  Demonstrated ability to operate glassware processing equipment (autoclaves, sterilizing ovens, and washers) is preferred.  Competence in reading and completing charts, forms and other documents is desirable, as is the ability to use a personal computer and basic word processing and spreadsheet applications.  Must be physically able to stand for extended periods and perform physically strenuous work.  Good verbal/written communication skills are also highly desirable.
