Position Summary:
Initiates the design, development, execution and implementation of gas purification research projects. Investigates the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and products. Plans and executes laboratory research. Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories, and may contribute to scientific literature and conferences. Participates in development of patent applications. May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts. Develops new technologies for gas purification and related applications. Requires extensive work in trace impurity analysis in gases using GC's, APIMS, FT-IR and other methods. Works with product management and customers to appropriately define new technology/product requirements.

Position Key Responsibilities:
· Develop and characterize new materials for gas purification and related applications.
· File idea disclosure and work with patent attorneys to complete patent applications and filings.
· Analyze gases for trace impurities using GC, APIMS, FT-IR and other techniques
· Maintain analytical equipment
· Document work by recording data in lab notebook, writing internal reports, idea disclosures, and Applications Notes for external customers.
· Identify and analyze new opportunities and competitive products in contamination control technology for the semiconductor industry through technical/trade conferences such as trade shows and other semiconductor affiliations.
· Provide educational training on Entegris GMC products to sales and field service personnel.
· Assists the manufacturing operation in problem solving, cost effectiveness and improved product quality.
· Involved in new product scale-up, process optimization, technology transfer, product field analysis, and product validation activities. Works with various departments to ensure products and designs are compatible for new product technology transfer.
· May conduct test and analyses on returned purification products to determine the causes of failure in the semiconductor process and make recommendations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend technical drawings, correspondence, and documents. Must be able to write technical reports and more complex correspondence for internal use. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and peers. Ability to communicate with other functional groups, such as engineering and documentation to resolve problems. Ability to train and present to field service and sales groups.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits and differential equations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several variables. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Education and Experience:
Ph.D. degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics or closely related field and three years experience. A strong analytical background is preferred.
Up to 10% international travel.
Physical Demands:
Ability to sit/stand for long periods; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; move throughout the department/facility; stoop, kneel or crouch. Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Working Environment:
This is a lab and office environment. It involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock and moderate to high noise levels. Safety glasses are required in some areas. Other safety garments or protection may need to be worn, depending on the nature of the work area.
Additional Work Requirements/Factors:
Up to 10% international travel.
