Control Scientist/ Engineer

CYMER Inc. The world leader in Excimer Lasers for the semiconductor industry is actively seeking to add some very special individuals to our R&D team. Located in North San Diego County, our state of the art award winning facilities designed by the world famous Syska Hennessey Group is minutes away from some of the finest schools and living areas in San Diego.
Our Control Scientist / Engineer position is seeking someone with the following skills and qualifications:
Can design and validate algorithms for controlling optical specifications of excimer laser light sources.
Lead advanced research and development for control systems for excimer lasers & other equipment used in the semiconductor industry. Specifically, design, implement and test control algorithms for excimer lasers and advanced industrial controllers.
Design and perform detailed analysis of algorithms for controller key laser performance attributes, such as dose, F2 concentration and wavelength.
Develop or improve algorithm/control concepts, and participate in the development of automated analysis and reporting tools providing summary of laser performance and contribution of specific modules, sub-systems or components to performance.
Solve or develop solutions to complex problems.
Write comprehensive design documentation for software implementation, review code implementation and lead design validation of algorithm performance.
Write reports and papers documenting research results.
• Develop high level concepts for system level improvement of laser performance.
• Responsibilities can include leading cross- functional team of scientists, test engineers and SW engineers towards the development of a control system solution.
• May serve as company’s technical spoke person for specific technology areas
• Responsibilities can include supervision of a small team of scientist, engineer or technician.
• Expertise in control theory
• Demonstrated capability to apply control theory to the solution of practical problems.
• Ability to plan, organize and track against plan his individual project.
• Communicate effectively plans, status and test results.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams of laser scientists, design engineers, test engineers and technicians.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Ph.D. or M.S. in Control Systems, System Identification, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field. Two years of control systems research experience in industry desirable. Education or experience background must include: 1) Control algorithms, 2) Closed loop linear & non-linear control methods and modeling, 3) Advanced industrial controllers, 4) High-level mathematics and 5) Control theory.
• Track record of successfully driving an idea into product in an industrial environment.
