Senior Buyer
SUMMARY: Responsible for supervising Buyers who have responsibility for product sourcing, product development, business analysis, trend optimization, negotiating in order to increase sales and margin. This individual will take a leadership role in the strategic planning of their specific business segments. The individual will work as a liaison between Marketing and/ or Graphics in order to implement the companies marketing goals for the catalog, website and other collateral. Work closely with Purchasing to optimize our relationships with suppliers, keep costs and MOQs in line, and ensure good communication with the Planners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following as well as other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Increase sales within categories by identifying business opportunities through data evaluation and competitive analysis. Present strategies for increasing business, for developing new products, or for minimizing risks through exit strategies.Develop new product ideas and strategies in order to increase revenue within business segments.Increase marginsWork closely with Buyers in order to provide merchandising direction and product guidance.Responsible for new product sourcing, product selection, manage vendor relations, negotiation.Assume leadership role within the department. Responsible for clear communication with buyers and with other departments as projects are assigned.In addition to supervising Buyers within the department, this individual will have their own category responsibility within the catalog.Responsible for accurate sales analysis in order to properly make layout recommendations to Graphics.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. They must have held prior supervisory positions. Requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. .
EDUCATIONS and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors Degree plus at least 5 years experience in a merchandising field. Must be creative and possess the ability to analyze data. Some supervisory experience. Experience negotiating and developing products with foreign vendors a plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to provide features and benefits to the copywriter for catalogs and the website. Ability to write business correspondence and procedures to the prescribed style and format.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to understand sales trends and margin reports. Ability to create and update excel spreadsheets. Must understand retail math.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems based on concrete variable. Must be able to handle situations where only a limited amount of information exists. Ability to be flexible and adapt to change. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
