Description


The Corporate Traffic Department, located in Northwest Phoenix, has an opening for a Traffic Specialist. We are looking for a highly motivated, quick learning, team oriented person.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for providing on time delivery service to multiple retail Divisions for all truck load deliveries of inbound produce, perishable, meat and grocery products.
Responsible for optimizing the effective spending of all transportation dollars for multiple Safeway retail Divisions.
Maintain system for proper freight cost and allowance calculations.
Research and analyze customer pick up and backhaul opportunities
Acting liaison between corporate procurement, distribution centers and corporate traffic.
Tender shipments to carriers.
Analyze the transportation cost per lane and commodity.
Negotiate rates and resolve service issues with carriers.
Communicate with buyers, vendors, and warehouse personnel on order changes and problems.
Develop and implement alternative methods of distribution (i.e., direct store deliveries).
Work as a team player with internal staff and external customers to accomplish least cost/on-time delivery service.
Working knowledge of freight claim liability and resolution.
Special projects as assigned.
Conduct department training as needed.


 Required Skills


Qualifications: The following are preferred or desired unless specifically stated:
College degree in Transportation, Logistics, or Business related field, preferred.
Four to six years of transportation/logistics experience.
Two to four years transportation procurement experience.
Knowledge of both dry and perishable commodities.
Intermediate PC skills with knowledge of Windows & Microsoft software applications.
Highly motivated, self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills.
Good analytical, negotiating, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to multi-task, meet tight deadlines, and adjust priorities.
Must be able to function effectively in a team environment.
A working knowledge of Query Management Facility, SSIMS, EXE, and One Network, preferred.
Able to demonstrate a solid customer focus.
Flexible regarding work hours.
