TERRITORIAL DONOR MANAGEMENT TRAINER / ANALYST / SUPPORT SPECIALIST
This exempt position is in the Community Relations and Development Department at The Salvation Army Western Territorial Headquarters. Responsibilities of this position include coordinating training programs for donor management software and providing support specifically applicable to development and donor management.
Preferred candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience and eight years previous experience in a training and/or support environment. Fundraising experience and at least eight years working with a donor software system are required. Ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive knowledge of database strategies, systems and data management principles as well as an advanced, integrated understanding of fundraising concepts.
The Salvation Army's Western Territorial Headquarters oversee the Western thirteen States and the Pacific Islands and are located in beautiful downtown Long Beach, just steps away from Shoreline Village and the Pacific Ocean. The Territorial Donor Management Trainer/Analyst/Support Specialist will be based in Southern California and travel extensively through the Territory. Coordinate training programs for donor management software program. Provide support specifically applicable to development and donor management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Continued:Ability to read, write and communicate clearly in the English language. Ability to operate basic office equipment including a telephone, Dictaphone, fax machine, photocopier, A/V equipment, etc. Ability to be a self starter and innovator; to work independently with a minimum of supervision. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while effectively managing multiple competing priorities. Ability to speak effectively in public to both internal and external audiences.
SOFTWARE–RELATED SKILLS:Experience with PC/s and networking, database management, modems, data transfer, system backup etc.Familiar with Microsoft Windows network navigation desirableFamiliar with Microsoft SQL DatabasesFamiliar with OLAP reporting tools (Cognos, Crystal Reports, Business Objects, etc.)Previous experience with a donor software system requiredFamiliarity with and ability to operate necessary computer equipment. Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Lotus Notes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist the Donor Management Coordinator and Direct Marketing Director with the Territorial CRD Team and Command Development Teams to build and oversee integrated systems of efficiency and sophisticated reporting, including coding strategies, segmentation strategies, data integrity, and information output strategies that support the Command CRD Department’s fundraising strategies. Assist the Direct Marketing Director with recommendations (based on interaction with Divisions) for marketing strategies to increase fundraising for the Territory.Create and implement a training programto incorporate strategies defined and identified for all fundraising disciplinesto emphasize an integrated approach to all fundraising efforts.to certify increased donor management software user capabilities. Include all upgrades as they are disseminated.on all ancillary programs associated with donor software (email broadcast tool, software, reporting tools.on donor software for new hires in all disciplines of developmentMaintain departmental policies and procedures manual (responsible for initial
documentation and updates).Provide input on the production of standard and custom reports (weekly, monthly, on
demand), work with staff to identify standard reports that can be run by staff on their
own; provide training where appropriateSupport appropriate users on donor management issues; address changes, donor comments, donor preferences, etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Support appropriate personnel in contact managementSupport appropriate personnel in moves managementSupport all the gift/data entry processes in the commands. Suggest more efficient procedures and achievable magnitudes of efficiency.Support appropriate personnel on campaign management tool, train to ensure accuracy of donor segment selection for mail appeal letter production for both standard and unique segmentation.Support appropriate personnel to run standard reports relating to direct mail appeal performance, including daily income by appeal, income to date, comparison with previous year, comparison by donor segment, zip code, etc.Support appropriate personnel to run standard reports relating to major gift cultivation effortsSupport appropriate personnel to run standard reports relating to planned giving cultivation effortsSupport appropriate personnel on remittance banking services.Support appropriate personnel on use of codes and in conjunction with donor management staff, assist in creating new values when needed to meet new fundraising strategies.Provide input gained from interaction with Commands to THQ CRD donor management staff for database issues – training, upgrades, special projects, or performance issues.Maintain current understanding of technology developments with donor database and, as requested, in other areas to identify potential users, IE-web technologies, integration opportunities, etc. Transfer procured knowledge and training to appropriate development staff. Provide ongoing assistance to users.Ensure that process/procedural documentation is clearly articulated and is maintained current and easily accessible.Create and deliver targeted training to current and new users.
