Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation: Financial Analyst, Global Development
Summary:
The Global Development Financial Analyst will assist in developing, communicating and monitoring the financial and operational results for the foundation’s Global Development division. The Global Development division includes the foundation’s global libraries, financial services for the poor, water sanitation & hygiene, and agricultural development teams.
Work efforts will include supporting the preparation and analysis of business plans, financial statements, models, and tools to support division goals. The Financial Analyst will work closely with and advise staff on a wide range of financial, and operational issues, and will serve a critical role in developing and tracking divisions projects, including forecasting of grant and contract spending.
Responsibilities:
· Prepare financial models to support specific division projects. These models will track financial progress, forecast division payout, and support decision making for various program options.
· Creating internal financial planning tools.
· Improving division forecasting tools, and partner with program teams to accurately forecast grant and contract spending
· Support division and Financial Planning and Analysis department to develop and execute annual budgets and financial plans. Participate in the various financial processes of the department as needed.
· Supporting the division annual budget creation and tracking of variances.
· Organizing budget data in a clear and intuitive manner.
· Facilitating superior fiscal stewardship and control of foundation resources.
· Analyzing spending patterns to determine rationale in setting budget allocations.
· Work with Global Developments staff to support the development, update, and monitoring of new and existing business plans for submission to foundation executives.
· Creation of financial models to support business planning.
· Sensitivity analysis to determine relative volatility in costs.
· Identify financial or operating risks associated with the business plan.
· Development of thorough and clear presentation materials.
· Assist program officers in the evaluation and analysis of financial submissions related to grant making activity.
· Analyze proposal budgets and progress reports.
· Review grantee financial statements to assess financial health.
· Prepare reports summarizing project spending and variance analysis.
Qualifications:
· A degree in Finance, Economics or related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience in financial and strategic planning functions. Experience working in a consultative role with both public and private sector organizations is ideal. International experience and MBA preferred.
· Strong technical and financial knowledge, including experience creating complex financial models and efficiently communicating data and results to inform sound strategic and tactical decisions.
· Experience developing, evaluating, managing, and monitoring business plans.
· Excellent organizational skills and the ability to plan, manage, and complete multiple projects simultaneously.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to extract and analyze appropriate data to convey financial results through the use of supporting tables, graphs, and other visual representations.
· Strong attention to details and accuracy
· Commitment to the Foundation’s core values, mission, and programs.
· Excellent software skills with Microsoft Office applications. Ability to quickly learn new software modules.
