Writes and/or edits operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publications. Conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation. Researches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for non-technical and technical users. May document engineering processes and specifications. Recommends formats responsive to technical and customer requirements. Improves editorial and visual standards for documents and recommends new design, layouts and procedures as needed. Produces products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standard. Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance. For this position, DRC will consider only applicants with security clearances or applicants who are eligible for security clearances. Basic Qualification Requirements would be:
Bachelors Degree with 2-4 Years or More of Specific Experience
or Alternative: 6-10 Years or More of Specific Experience
Clearance: Secret Required
Prefer DoD Service or MIL Materiel Command Experience (MIL & Civilian)
Aviation Experience - Prefer Helicopter, but Fixed Wing is acceptableService
Experience – Army Preferred, but other Service Aviation Experience is acceptable
Operator or Maintainer acceptable
Should have a working relationship with:
MS Word (Text, Tables & Graphics Using Templates)
Adobe Acrobat Professional (Incl: PDF Conversion, Book Marking & Linking)
Scanning Software Applications
Paint Shop Pro to Modify, Revise or Update Graphic Illustrations
Arbortext Epic Editor & Print Composer Experience is a Plus.
DWGSee Drawing Reading & Editing Program or Equivalent
The individual should:
Have good writing skills.
Be detail oriented.
Be able to seamlessly switch between multiple tasks.
Able to communicate well.
Follow established procedures for developing, modifying & filing electronic documents.
Aviation Technical Writer (Editor): (General)
Familiar with MIL Helicopters – Army Preferred, Fixed Wing acceptable
Familiar with DoD Format Technical Manuals (TMs) – Army Preferred
Able to understand technical source data, i.e., drawings, schematics, illustrations & other technical data/instructions for impact to aircraft configuration TM development or update.
MIL or DoD Civilian Aviation background highly desirable.
Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and Acquisition Logistics background desirable.
Aviation Technical Writer (Editor): (Technical)
DoD Experienced MIL or Civilian Aeronautical Engineering, Aviation Engineering Technician, or Aviation Engineering Experience desirable
Technical Writer (Editor): (Production Control & Quality Control)Technical Publications Production, Edit, Specification Compliance, Style and Format Compliance Background
Preparation of Final Manuscript and processing for Print and Distribution
