ATTORNEY GENERAL - TOP LEGAL COUNSEL

  ATTORNEY GENERAL   Arizona Tribal Council seeks Attorney General to provide legal advice on a wide range of governmental issues affecting the Indian Nation, its tribal departments, economic enterprises and legislatively-created boards and commissions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 
Must be Arizona Bar licensed and a member in good standing.
Must have at least 10 years legal experience.
Possesses the ability to competently handle a wide range of complex transactional and litigation matters.
Must have prior legal experience in areas of Indian housing, environmental issues,  ICWA, employment law, Indian gaming, contracts, taxation, jurisdictional issues, and economic development in Indian country.
Must have litigation experience and familiarity with Court rules and procedures.
Must have skills interpreting case law, codes, ordinances and administrative rules.
Must have the ability to manage law office staff and maintain department budget.
Must be committed to the concept of tribal sovereignty and Indian self-determination.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 
The capacity to handle a heavy workload, including review of complex business transactions, contracts and proposals and litigation.
Will represent the Nation in tribal, state and federal court actions.
Interface with federal, state and other governmental agencies on behalf of the Nation.
Draft ordinances, Code revisions, resolutions, and legal opinions.
Oversee work of Special Counsel, ensuring cost effective utilization.
Supervise law office staff and administer departmental budget as approved by Tribal Council.

 

SALARY:  Up to $180K

 

Will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and complete a background check which may include fingerprinting.
