Electrician

Job Purpose:

Supports the Maintenance Branch by performing a variety of electrical trade functions. These duties include Corrective and Preventive Maintenance on facility systems, equipment, and components, such as generators, switch gear, transformers, programmable logic controllers, motor control centers, motors, HVAC units, and control and power circuits. Involved in the installation of conduit, cable trays, raceways, wiring and other associated electrical equipment in support of plant configuration changes. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, layouts and specifications in the performance of the duties to ensure system integrity is maintained. 

 

Duties:

* Performs Journeyman level duties in the installation, repair and maintenance of  electrical equipment, systems and components.



* Performs Corrective and Preventive Electrical Maintenance tasks. Utilizes blueprints, drawings and specifications in locating and diagnosing trouble in electrical equipment, control circuits and power systems. 



* Performs emergency repairs to systems, equipment and components. Records the as-found condition as well as the repaired condition, analyzing system characteristics to determine the cause of failure.



* Replaces worn, damaged or failed electrical equipment and fixtures in support of facility operations.



* Conducts post-maintenance testing of systems, equipment and components as necessary to complete work packages and ensures systems, equipment and components are returned to operational conditions.



* Assists vendors in performing Electrical Maintenance tasks that are beyond the  Maintenance Department's capability.  Provides technical support for this work.



* Specifies maintenance equipment needs to complete electrical tasks.



* Fabricates electrical components consistent with engineering specifications. 



* Wears various levels of Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) in the performance of maintenance. 

 

* Works in close proximity to chemical agents and decontamination solutions. Must be able to  acknowledge and respond to flashing lights and sirens and be able to don a protective mask and evacuate up to two (2) miles in an expeditious manner.



* Works in environments with elevated temperatures.



* Maintains accountability of  property, including tools and maintenance equipment.



* Serves as a member of the Emergency Response Team and/or Hazmat Team.


* Works rotating shifts, weekends and holidays, as required to support 24 hour processing of the facility.


*  Performs Preventive Maintenance tasks, following predetermined checklists in the performance of preventive maintenance.

 

*  Understands and utilizes a variety of handtools, power tools, measurement and test equipment (M&TE) in the performance of duties.

 

*  Assists Engineering with modifications/revisions to plant systems, equipment and/or components.

 

*  Required to fill in for Maintenance Team Leader in their absence.

 

*  Performs hazardous waste worker duties in permitted or regulated facilities. Duties may involve one or more of the following: Movement, containerization, storage, identification, record keeping, emergency response and/or disposing of hazardous waste.




Skills/Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent. Formal Electrical training such as vocational/technical school, trade school, military or apprenticeship desired.

 

Must be able to wear various levels of Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE). Must be able to read and interpret blueprint drawings, layouts and specifications.

 

A minimum of four (4) years of electrical work experience in an industrial setting, with a preference in a toxic or hazardous work environment desired.  Prefer a portion of this experience to be with chemical demil plant maintenance and/or industrial chemical plant maintenance.

 

Develop technical solutions and workarounds to address maintenance-related problems, while minimizing cost and schedule impact.  This will also require communication of technical information to  ANCDF management, peers, and subordinates so that safe and environmentally sound operations are not compromised.

Improve maintenance performance by continually striving to reduce downtime and minimize hazardous waste production.

Requires a thorough understanding of equipment operation, equipment maintenance requirements, and maintenance restrictions imposed by safety and environmental regulations.
