Sr. Computer Scientist

The Federal Communications Solutions Business Unit currently has an opening for a Senior Computer Scientist. Job Description: Responsibilities include technical solution development, enhancements, maintenance and operations of a large scale IT management information tool that combines the use of existing data and new data to provide an integrated information solution tool for Marshall Space Flight Center. Duties: Formulate requirements, design solutions, direct and participate in the lifecycle development of web based applications. Serve as a liaison between customer/management, functional users and developers. Assist in the development of plans including schedule and cost estimates; management of customer expectations; participate or lead Integrated Product Teams with functional and technical users; development of full lifecycle documentation; creation of status reports; collection and presentation of project metric and responds promptly to other data calls as required. Participate in the improvement of institutional processes and procedures that are compatible with ISO 9000:2000, NPR7150.2 and CMMI. Also participate in organizational SEPG to include monitoring and change control boards. Candidate must be team oriented as this position requires strong team focus and must work well under pressures, handling multiple assignments concurrently.

EDUCATION: B.S. Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent in a related technical discipline) and seven years of relevant experience OR High School diploma and twelve years of related experience.

Required Skills: Minimum of five years current experience in web-based PHP and MYSQL applications development and development of interfaces to legacy system data. Minimum of three years technical project management. Thorough understanding of requirements definition and analysis, software design and experience in full lifecycle implementation. Excellent customer interface, presentation, communications and writing skills. Experience in process development, improvement and promulgation.

Desired Skills: Experience with web applications/database in a multi-tier environment. Experience in Operating Systems such as Unix, LINIX, NT and Win2K; databases such as MYSQL and Oracle; developer tools such as XML, HTML, Perl, PHP, JAVA, JAVASCRIPT and ODBC drivers.
