Respiratory Therapist II-Pool Days

Overview : This position is responsible for providing respiratory care and diagnostic testing to patients with respiratory and/or cardiac disorders. The practitioner will understand and apply fundamental techniques of respiratory therapy to adult, adolescent, pediatric and neonatal patients in an acute care setting and home care and/or to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients in skilled nursing and resident care facilities, dependent on area of assignment. Responsibilities :

1. Performs all basic modalities of respiratory therapy to include: CPR, airway care and lavage, airway clearance techniques, patient education, medical gas administration, aerosol therapy, patient monitoring and administration of pharmacological solutions as prescribed by physicians.
2. Applies and manages mechanical ventilators, adjusting setting based on physician direction.
3. Assembles, disassembles, operates, maintains, troubleshoots, cleans and performs adjustments in the applications of durable medical equipment and circuitry used in the delivery of respiratory care.
4. Performs pulmonary and cardiology diagnostic testing which may include, but is not limited to the following:
A. Arterial blood sampling techniques
B. Blood gas analysis
C. EKG
D. Venipuncture
5. Performs basic assessment of patient's disease process, necessity and adequacy of ordered care and response to therapy delivered.
6. Documents therapy provided in an accurate and complete manner on the patient's medical record. Department paperwork is completed in a concise manner. Testing documentation is completed per Department policy. Communicates workload updates in a timely manner.
7. Communicates and collaborates with resource staff in formulating care plans, recommendations for change in therapy, identification and resolution of problems and when confronted with unfamiliar situations, procedures and techniques.
Follows safety standards in all aspects of performance of the above functions, reports/removes unsafe equipment and attends safety education sessions.

Qualifications :

Requires a Certified Respiratory Therapist CRT credential, registry eligibility preferred with a current Arizona license to practice respiratory care. Must have clinical experience and ability to perform basic respiratory therapy modalities. Must have an interest in providing care to the Pediatric population.
