Phoenix House, a non-profit organization, is one of the nation’s foremost providers of comprehensive substance abuse treatment and prevention services across the United States. Under the direction of the Senior Counselor, performs as a primary counselor to a caseload of inmates and assists in the supervision of assigned activities involved in establishing a total therapeutic environment.  Excellent benefits.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

-  Supervises a caseload of inmate substance abusers, records activities, progress and attendance of clients in charts in a timely manner.

-  Participates in case management and staff meetings, creates treatment plans with clients.

-  Performs one-to-one counseling, supervises and/or participates in group encounters, supervises and/or participates in all official functions of the program including community group meetings, public speaking engagements, and other functions as may be assigned by senior staff.

-  Supervises morning meetings, seminars, house meetings and discussion groups.

-  Performs floor coverage as deemed necessary by senior staff.

-  Participates in the development of Aftercare treatment plans (SASCAs) and family therapy services.

-  Complies with Phoenix House and CDC confidentiality guidelines.

-  Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure work area that is free of contraband and forbidden items.

 

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

-  High School completion or equivalency is required.

-  Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license.

-  Knowledge of therapeutic communities preferable by actual living experience, showing interest in the field of substance abuse treatment (preferably in a corrections environment), or two years of paid or volunteer experience in a social service agency or setting.

-  Must meet CDC security clearance requirements.

-  Must be drug and alcohol free for a minimum of three (3) years.

-  Computer literate.

-  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

-  Demonstration of emotional maturity and stability.

-  Foster and promote a positive image and professional appearance.
