Meaningful Work Experience



 

Work beside some dedicated, altruistic people who are pioneers at heart.  Some employees have given their entire careers and lives to serve a people who suffer from socioeconomic conditions and who still fish and hunt for sustenance.  These native Alaskan Yupik people embrace and encourage family values and love their community.  The Yupik people believe that their elders are to be respected and valued. Some other employees will give these native people a portion of their career, benefiting from the rich cultural experience and receiving satisfaction from giving to an underserved people. Those that come to a place called Bethel, Alaska will also serve over 58 villages that span a territory the size of Oregon.  Many of these villages still do not have running water.  These people truly appreciate the medical assistance provided to them, giving those that serve respect and honor.

 

Fair Compensation

 

Compensation for your profession is market competitive. Benefits are particularly good with extremely low co-pays for full health insurance.  A single person pays just $10 bi-weekly, a family $30 bi-weekly.  The retirement plan is also very good with a matching program in addition to a generous amount put in your retirement for each and every employee. A very competitive relocation package offered. 

 

Eligibility for Loan Repayment up to $20,000.00 per Year

 

In order to help assist these underserved people, the Indian Health Services (IHS) has loan repayment programs available.  Loan repayment is not guaranteed with offer of employment, as all employees must apply directly through Indian Health Services.  Since this is not absolutely guaranteed, we ask that you do not make this program your sole reason to come work in Bethel.  Instead, look at it as a potential added bonus for serving your fellow man.  Opportunities for other scholarships through the National Health Services Corp. is also available for eligibility.

The Opportunity 

 

Position Summary:

 

 The individual in this position will provide direct clinical services to the residents of YKHC's Keys Program. The Keys Program consists of a co-located four bed JCAHO accredited children's crisis respite facility and an eight bed emergency shelter located an in Bethel, Alaska. The individual in this position will also supervise, train staff, and coordinate client care in a manner consistent with policies and procedures. The individual in this position will also facilitate the provision of a safe, healthy, structured environment; engage clients and families a therapeutic alliance, and function as an active member of the multi-disciplinary Behavioral Health treatment team.

 

Requirements:Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or Nursing with specialty in Child Mental Health. MUST HAVE Two- (2) years supervised experience providing various behavioral health direct child clinical care services performed at a satisfactory level. Experience in a cross-cultural setting preferable with Native American cultures. The candidate will be required to be licensed or licensable in their respective profession. The candidate will also have or be eligible to obtain an Alaska drivers license.
