Pharmacy Technician

First Health Services, a Coventry Health Care company, is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Pharmacy Technician at our office in Glen Allen, VA.

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

Evaluates, authorizes approval and communicates decision for prior authorization pharmacy requests according to clinical guidelines.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Evaluates and authorizes approval of prior authorization pharmacy requests from prescribers received by telephone and/or facsimile using client clinical criteria.  Determines appropriateness for medications.  Communicates decision to physicians, physician's office staff, medical management staff and/or pharmacists.Communicates selected prior authorization criteria, pharmacy benefit coverage and formulary alternatives to physicians, physician's office staff, medical management staff and/or pharmacists.Researches, resolves and documents prior authorization outcomes in pharmacy system.Escalates requests to Pharmacist when request required extensive clinical review or denial.Researches, resolves and documents physician or client inquires and grievances and provides verbal or written results to client, prescriber, provider and/or managementPerforms other duties as required.

 

     HOURS:   Monday - Friday  10:00 am - 7:00 pm

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

 High school degree or equivalent experience.National Pharmacy Technician Board certification and/or state registrationExperience (6 months) in retail, hospital or facility pharmacy setting required.Proficiency in Pharmacy computerized systems and software applications required.Excellent written and verbal communications skills required.Ability to follow clinical criteria and instructions to approve prior authorization request.Ability to use standard corporate software packages and corporate applications.
