Occupational Health Nurse

 Provides expert support to the corporate headquarters and plants in the area of employee health and compliance. Coordinates and provides guidance and support to plant nursing programs, develops writes and recommends policies, standards, procedures and programs to measure, monitor and protect the health of employees and assure compliance with governmental laws and regulations.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Develops, writes, recommends and implements policies and procedures for monitoring and analyzing employee health and providing adequate and appropriate health services.

Keeps current of changes in laws, regulations, standards and new equipment techniques and determines
applicability to company.

Develops medical programs for the plants and provides protocols for the local clinics and physicians.

Provides training, orientation and technical support to occupational health nurses or other support staff of medical programs at the plants.

Administers and executes the Drug and Alcohol Program at both plant and local level to provide standards according to DHHS.

Serves as the liaison between the external EAP (Administers Employee Assistance Program) administrator and plants.

Administers the Ergonomic Program for Corporate headquarters.

 

Audits plant health services programs to assure compliance with policies and proper medical practices.

Conducts medical surveillance and biological monitoring programs for Milwaukee-based employees.

 

Provides OSHA required training for Milwaukee-based engineers.

Administers emergency care program, including maintaining current medical orders for nursing staff and first aid providers, coordinating training of designated first aiders in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, administering medical treatment with appropriate referral and follow up as indicated, supervising and monitoring the care rendered by first aiders, and ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment.

 

Administers Workers Compensation program for Corporate Headquarter employees.

· Case manages injuries/illness with periodic review of progress and status to assure maximum rehabilitation, timely return to work and appropriate job placement

· Interacts with carrier/administrators in loss control and claims handling functions

Develops and implements programs to evaluate and control medical absence and employee return to work, to include STD, FMLA, ADA and WC issues.

 

Participates on an interdisciplinary team regarding health-related concerns:

· Participates in epidemiological investigation of health issues

· Conducts regular facility rounds to identify health concerns

· Participates in formal education programs of health issues

· Participates in Health and Safety Committee activities

· Provides resources for universities and other educational expert opinion for lead cases

· Ensures and maintains public relations with State health departments

Develops and maintains records and reports which identify scope and nature of health service functions which comply with  policies and local, state and federal regulations

Sets up external testing labs. Interacts with and monitors community resources to assure appropriate, cost effective services for employees

Administers safety glasses and respirator program in Milwaukee.

Promotes health maintenance and disease prevention programs.

 

Requirements:

 

BA, RN, COHN-S plus  I year of hospital experience and 5+ year’s occupational health nurse experience

 

Working Conditions:

 

Exposure to Blood borne Pathogens.  Requires up to 20% travel.
