Analyst 2 and Analyst 3 positions
HSAG is the premier provider of health care quality improvement and assurance to Federal and State agencies. The Research and Analysis Team provides statistical programming, analysis, methodology, and reporting for HSAG’s Federal and State and Corporate Divisions. At any given time, the Research and Analysis Team will be working on 25 major quality assurance or improvement projects.
OVERALL SHORT DESCRIPTION
The Research and Analysis Team is looking for analysts to fill two positions: one Analyst 2 position and one Analyst 3 position.
The Analyst 2 position will, under limited supervision, conduct accurate and verified descriptive and statistical analysis of patterns of care and outcomes, validate results from other analysts and prepare reports for dissemination and presentations. Assists in designing statistical analysis plans, and defines case selection criteria and variable parameters.
The Analyst 3 position will, under limited supervision, conduct accurate and verified descriptive and statistical analyses of patterns of care and outcomes, validate results from other analysts, and prepare reports for dissemination and presentations. Assists in designing health care study protocols and statistical analysis plans, sampling methodologies, data file layouts, report layouts, and case selection criteria. Serves as a resource for other health care analysts. Mentors junior health care analysts. Supervises junior health care analysts as assigned. Takes lead responsibility for analytic projects as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Analyst 2
1. Proficiency in the use of SAS, conducting and interpreting primary analyses, conducting secondary and exploratory analyses, developing appropriate statistical models, determining sample sizes, manipulating complex databases, and tracking and evaluating patterns of care and outcomes.
2. Responsible for technical reports supported by tables and charts, quality improvement program (QIP) measurement data, generating reports for filling special requests.
3. Verifies and ensures the accuracy of all assigned tasks, including the documentation and validation of computer programs. Identifies problem areas and develops solutions, working with appropriate staff.
4. Attends and participates in data analyst, project, staff and training meetings. Ability to make presentations and communicate project results to staff. Represents HSAG in a professional manner at all times.
5. Stays abreast of changes in database methods, variable definitions, processes of health care delivery, and current analytic methodologies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Analyst 3
1. Ensures timeliness, completeness, accuracy, and quality of work products.
2. Programming Track
a. Applies advanced SAS programming skills to analytic problems.
b. Documents and validates SAS programs.
c. Validates, manipulates, imports, and exports complex databases.
And/Or Functions 2 and 3
3. Project Management Track
a. Plans and manages analytic activities.
b. Communicates with internal and external clients
c. Extensive report writing
4. Prepares clear and complete project documentation.
5. Prepares technical reports and presents findings.
6. Designs, attends, and participates in training, and presents findings at meetings or conferences.
7. Mentors and provides guidance to junior analysts
Advanced Functions
8. Develops and evaluates complex statistical models.
9. Implements and interprets complex analyses.
10. Identifies analytical and methodological problems and develops solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS: Analyst 2
1. Master's degree with strong emphasis in mathematics, statistics or epidemiology.
2. Three to five years work experience in manipulating databases and in developing and interpreting data analyses.
3. Graduate course work in statistics.
4. Strong verbal/written/communication skills.
5. Advanced knowledge in SAS computer programming, word processing and spreadsheets.
6. Knowledge of healthcare data, HEDIS reporting, CAHPS, and managed care a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS: Analyst 3
1. Master's degree in epidemiology, statistics, public health, or related field with at least 5 years experience in the health care field, or Bachelor's degree with 7 years experience in the health care field.
2. Minimum of five years experience manipulating health care databases and in developing and interpreting data analyses.
3. Strong verbal/written communication skills, including formal presentation skills.
4. Advanced SAS programming skills.
5. Advanced data management skills.
6. Advanced proficiency with word processing and spreadsheets programs.
7. Advanced knowledge of survey research methodology preferred
8. Advanced statistical analysis skills preferred.
9. Knowledge of health care data, managed care industry, HEDIS/CAHPS preferred.
10. Knowledge of NCQA and CMS policies and procedures preferred.
11. Experience with basic geographic information systems preferred.
