Position Summary

 

The Senior Research Optometrist undertakes clinical research and is essential to delivering new products and product improvements for the Company.  He/she uses strong Optometric and clinical research skills to develop clinical evaluation protocols, conduct clinical investigations, monitor outsourced R&D clinical activity and analyze research results.

 

Requirements

 

1. Provides expertise in the clinical testing of the company’s product development projects including new materials, processes and lens designs.

2. Develops and manages the implementation of clinical testing protocols in conjunction with CROs and external research groups as required.  Is expected to ensure the integrity of the observations collected at external sites by qualifying sites and participating in data collection at the clinical sites.

3. Contributes to clinical methods developments.

4. Maintains and develops the capabilities of the in-house clinic.

5. Conducts clinical evaluations in-house and undertakes surveys, literature reviews and general information gathering to investigate new R&D opportunities.

6. Uses strong data management and analytical skills to interpret clinical research results.

7. Participates in fulfilling R&D clinical regulatory requirements by interfacing with Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance to fulfil R&D regulatory obligations.

8. Provides support to the sales and marketing groups in the understanding and development of the Company’s products.  Assists in the development from time to time of marketing support materials including presentations, publications, and claims development.

9. Other clinical activities as required by the Company

 

Education/Experience

 



1. Requires 5+ years experience in a clinical setting or in the contact lens industry especially in clinical testing, product development, and data analyses.  Experience interfacing with outside groups, consultants or peer professionals and managing contact clinical trials are essential.

2. Requires a degree in Optometry and a postgraduate research degree in a related discipline. 

3. Strong level knowledge of contact lens clinical evaluation techniques, contact lens clinical performance and clinical trial design. 

4. Specific skills required include:  strong analytical and problem solving ability, creative and inventive skills, good communication skills required to interface with clinical sites and regulatory bodies, outside consultants and marketing.  Strong organizational skill and coordination skills are essential.

5. The candidate must be a team player and multi-task across several projects requiring clinical testing.

6. Participation in the preparation of design control documents, 510k, CE, IDE and/or PMA submissions for regulatory approvals of contact lens products is preferred.
