HIMS Coder Sr

Overview : This position will be working at Banner Baywood Heart Hosptial Monday thru Friday. In the Medical Records Department (HIMS). This position requires Outpatient Cardiac coding and charging.

Responsibilities :

Accurately codes diagnoses and procedural information on all types of inpatients and/or complex diagnostic and therapeutic treatment outpatients and/or physician diagnostic, procedure and level codes according to ICD and/or CPT principles and conventions within established time frames.

2. Is responsible for meeting minimum quantity productivity standards. Is responsible for accurate DRG and/or APC assignment.

3. Abstracts clinical diagnosis and procedure codes, and other required data elements for billing and development of system-wide databases.
4. Contacts members of the medical staff for clarification in cases where documentation in the record is unclear or insufficient to determine correct code assignment. Refers inconsistent patient treatment information to Coding Quality Analyst, Supervisor or individual department for clarification/additional information for accurate code assignment.

5. Contributes as a team player to maintain the facility defined hold for unbilled accounts receivables.
Follows safety standards in all aspects of performance of the above functions, reports/removes unsafe equipment and attends safety education sessions.

Qualifications :

Strongly prefer current CPT coding experience in a cardiology setting. Strongly prefer RHIA, RHIT, or CCS credentials. Must be able to work under conditions of frequent interruptions along with attention to detail is essential. Must be able to work independently and have a good understanding of reimbursement methodologies. Must be knowledgeable of current regulatory agency requirements for coding and charging in Cardiology. Minimum of two years Cardiology CPT coding experience preferred.
