Senior Manager/ Director, Strategic Alliances (Partnerships)
HMSHost seeks a uniquely qualified individual who will report to the Vice President of Strategic Alliances. The [manager/director] position requires an energetic self-starter with a broad based background in contracts-driven businesses, preferably in small business administration or legal compliance areas. Familiarity with FAA and DOT regulations impacting airport industry a plus. Ability to travel extensively and Bachelor’s degree required, relevant Master’s degree preferred.
Essential Functions:
§ Annually assist with development and implementation of the strategic plan for Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) participation and compliance.
§ Maintain relationships with DBEs for ongoing and potential business opportunities. Source new, qualified DBEs in select markets for ventures or subtenancy.
§ Ensure DBE candidates are properly qualified, certified and ready to propose.
§ Ensure all bid documentation is current, complete and accurate. Gather pertinent deal terms from Development for inclusion in partnership and sublease agreements. Facilitate the drafting of agreements ensuring all Business Case and legal requirements are captured.
§ Prepare background information in support of VPSP participation in presentations to airport staff, city/authority officials, senior management committees, etc.
§ Work with Development and Legal to ensure that political contributions of HMSHost, and any Partners and Subtenants involving Host, are compliant with applicable guidelines.
§ In conjunction with NPC and JV Accounting, ensure the process for reporting participation figures to client community is accurate, timely and centralized.
§ Ensure that Joint Venture (JV) Owners and Management Committee meetings are occurring. Develop standard template identifying minimum meeting requirements (e.g. agendas, economic reviews, minutes, etc.).
§ Facilitate select Owners Committee meetings and ensure appropriate corporate or regional participation.
§ Follow up on implementation of corrective measures to ensure contract compliance, including DBE Joint Ventures and DBE Subleases. Provide status reports to Vice President, Strategic Alliances -- Partnerships (VPSP) and senior management.
§ Identify potential DBE related issues before they escalate and correct where possible. Where more complex issues arise, ensure appropriate parties are tasked with resolution; provide follow-up to verify resolution.
§ Monitor, review and report on regulatory issues in support of VPSP strategic goals.
§ Research and advise management in changing regulations and impacts on HMSHost.
§ Support and facilitate Operations and Development training on governmental policies & recommendations.
§ Work with D&C Procurement and Supply Chain to identify consultant/contractor and supplier diversity opportunities for possible leverage for HMSHost in competing for contracts. Establish and execute plan with goals and milestones.
§ Support and facilitate cross-departmental integration on DBE related items (Tax, JV, NPC, Legal).
§ Test value and effectiveness of HMSHost Portal. Recommend areas for improvement to VPSP.
§ Support VPSP in efforts to garner support & recognition of HMSHost DBE program. Follow up on industry and media feedback; report out to VPSP.
§ Work jointly with Operations and Internal Management to improve the tenant management process. Maintain and update Guide to Tenant Management. Facilitate ongoing General Manager training. Troubleshoot and problem-solve when company, subtenant, or joint venture partner expectations are not being met. Elevate issue to VPSP or appropriate parties as necessary.
§ Actively participate in professional societies, political and business organizations to further corporate objectives relative to DBEs.
§ Active involvement in pertinent associations and committees (AMAC, AAAE, ACI, etc.) as directed by VPSP.
§ Work to elevate industry image of HMSHost as a model of DBE partnership.
Qualifications
§ Bachelor’s degree. Advanced degree in Business or Law preferred.
§ Ability to foster excellent cross-departmental relationships within HMSHost, and with the minority business community.
§ Knowledge of dispute resolution or financial workout methods helpful.
§ Experience in some or all of the following areas desirable: government entities such as the FAA, airport commissions, city governments, small business administration, small business lending.
§ Ability to understand government contracting process. Knowledge of commercial/business contracts, contract acquisition processes helpful.
§ Knowledge in fields of finance, business, and legal, as well as in the airport industry, is preferred, with understanding of process of review, interpretation, implementation of legal agreements.
§ Strong analytical, organizational skills essential. Good writing, editing and verbal skills required. Demonstrated ability to follow through on initiatives and meet deadlines.
§ Self starter, organized, demonstrated ability to prioritize.
§ Willingness to travel 20 to 40% of time.
