Principal Research Scientist

Battelle's International Technology Assessments Product Line is seeking an experienced Ph.D.-level biologist with a respected reputation in the IC and DoD to fill a technical position in their Charlottesville, VA office.

The Principal Research Scientist develops
solutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of ingenuity and creativity. This staff member has considerable latitude in working with clients to define technical objectives of projects. The Principal Research Scientist demonstrates interpersonal skills and is clearly perceived by clients as being knowledgeable and providing value. He or she has gained recognition from both peers and clients for technical expertise, regularly trains and directs the work of other staff, writes proposals and project reports, and can
execute responsibilities in client relations and project management with minimal guidance from
management.

Principal responsibilities are to:
1. Conduct and/or lead major technical projects with minimal guidance and within time and
budget constraints.
2. Contribute to the identification of technologies with sustainable market impact and to the
setting of the strategic direction for the commercialization of technology.
3. Maintain both formal and informal communications and relationships with clients including
responsibility for reports and presentations. May be the principal client contact.
4. Achieve high technical quality in project activities.
5. Contribute to marketing and project development planning activities.
6. Prepare, present and follow up on proposals.
7. Plan and carry out appropriate self-development activities.
8. Train staff in various aspects of technical activities. Provide input to management for staff
performance evaluations.
Reports to Manager or Associate Manager above. Performance will be evaluated by the person
to whom the Principal Research Scientist reports, and will be based upon the responsibilities
assigned.

Required Qualifications
- The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Microbiology, Biochemistry, or Genetics.
- The candidate has an active DoD TS clearance.
- The candidate has no less than 6 years experience to include graduate related laboratory work.
- The candidate has experience writing technical assessments and reports for multiple government clients.
