The City of Spartanburg is pleased to announce the creation of a new Planner position.  We are seeking a dedicated and energetic planning professional to assist applicants in compliance with architectural requirements for commercial design standards, building design solutions, and compatible site design solutions.

 

Other duties include: preparing guidelines and illustrations for community plans, zoning studies, streetscape studies, and reviewing development proposals. There is significant emphasis on providing assistance to applicants in getting the project through the development review process.  This includes preparing design manuals, guidebooks, flyers, posters, and other publications, with graphics, including drawings, photographs, and other illustrations to be used to provide assistance to the pubic in preparing development applications with architectural design standards implications.

 

The position uses computer programs such as ArcView and CAD in working with digital files, and freehand conceptual sketches to explore ideas with applicants and developers.

 

Requirements:

Graduated from an accredited university or college with a four-year degree in architecture, urban design, or planning with at least 3 years of related experience in urban planning, architecture, or related field.  A Masters Degree in urban design or planning is preferred and may be substituted for 2 years of experience. Licensing or certification as a design or planner professional is desirable.  The ideal candidate will have experience working with laws, ordinances and codes dealing with site plan, commercial design, and historic preservation requirements.
