Chief Financial Officer
Operating in a highly matrixed organizational structure, the Chief Financial Officer has a dual reporting relationship to the Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI) President/Chief Operating Officer(Pres/COO) and the NVCI EVP for Finance and Chief Corporate Financial Officer (EVP CCFO). The incoming CFO is responsible for overseeing, directing and coordinating the NVCI’s clinical financial affairs and meeting the financial service needs of the clinical administrators. In that capacity, the CFO will develop an effective patient care financial service organization; provide financial advice and council on a wide variety of financial management issues; and actively manage the overall financial direction and performance of the Clinical enterprise and its subsidiary joint ventures and/or satellite operations. The CFO will be charged with developing a new framework for this rapidly expanding Institute. This must be accomplished in a spirit of teamwork, collaboration and collegiality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Manage the Clinic’s financial resources by directing the entire revenue cycle including Patient Accounts, Billing, Collections, Insurance Processing, Fee Analysis, Customer Service, Data Processing, Charge Master, Coding and Cashiering. Must have an in depth knowledge of CPT, ICD-9 Coding, and pharmaceutical reimbursement, preferably with an oncology service line.
· Manages the accounts receivable and associated staff for assigned payers. Identifies, reports, and resolves issues that will result in accurate and timely payment of accounts.
· Knowledge of computerized billing systems.
· Work with clinical administrators to create financial plans and goals for the clinical program that project future capital needs and operating performance.
· Recommend management interventions necessary to achieve clinical financial targets, both short and long-term. Monitors the specifics and trends of denials and denial write offs, AR management and issues, with the intent to increase revenues. and improve Patient Accounts performance.
· Analyze, makes recommendations, and coordinate ways to improve front-end related issues involving insurance, registration, billing, claims, reimbursement, and coding.
· Create and maintain an annual financial planning budgeting system on an integrated basis to include developing the budgeting and cost management functions of the Clinical program.
· Present Clinic-wide budgets for review and approval.
· Recruit, retain and develop financial management staff necessary to meet the organization’s needs.
· Develop policies and procedures for the Clinical Financial Services Department and ensure compliance. Assure that the Clinical program is in compliance with bond documents and tax requirements and federal payment guidelines.
· Provide for organization and maintenance of an effective system of accounting throughout the Clinical program
· Ensure the consolidation and communication of financial reports, management reporting, and recommendations of actions to achieve firm targets.
· Incorporate industry standards and benchmark data into financial management tools and financial reporting.
· Prepare periodic reports outlining the Clinical program’s financial position in all areas of assets, liabilities, incomes and expenses based on past, present, and planned future operations.
· Provide proactive recommendations and actions necessary to achieve strong financial performance for the Clinical program as a whole.
· Provide education and counsel on general and specific issues that may have a financial impact on the organization. Using financial management tools, educate clinical faculty leaders.
· Prepare and effect timely filing of federal, state and other financial reports as required.
· Monitor insurance coverage for all risks over and above self-insurance limits for all entities and recommend changes when required.
· Establish financial tools that equip clinical areas to provide timely and focused oversight of fiscal resources.
Qualifications:
The selected candidate will be a proven leader in healthcare finance within a complex integrated system. Experience with a physician practice component is required. A broad base of knowledge specific to the healthcare industry is essential. Candidates will have an undergraduate degree in business administration, accounting or finance; a graduate degree and/or CPA is required. Minimum of ten years of experience in progressively responsible health care financial operations including a minimum of five years supervisory experience.
