Safety Specialist II

Purpose: Works under very general supervision. Independently works on and develops approaches to solutions. Conducts inspections and investigations and recommends corrective actions as needed. Develops implements and evaluates safety programs and procedures to assure personnel and facility safety. Provide assistance to the Branch Manager, professional safety consultation and technical assistance regarding OSHA, Military, and company safety directives to U.S. Army; Host Nation contractors; and company personnel.

Supervisory Role: None

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Conducts facility safety inspections at multiple work sites.
2. Prepares concise written reports of findings and corrective actions.
3. Conducts accident investigations.
4. Develops safety briefings, and conduct safety training.
5. Conducts hazard assessments as required.
6. Conducts installation safety surveillance, and performs other related tasks as directed.
7. Conducts trends analysis.
8. Must keep abreast of changes in all OSHA, Army, and other regulations.
 
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Education: M.S. in Safety or related field with 3-5 years relevant work experience, or B.S. in Safety or related field with 5-7 years relevant work experienced required.

2. Experience: Depending on education, a minimum of 3 years of progressively more responsible occupational safety experience in or directly related to the General Industry, Construction, or Military Safety is required.

3. Specialized Knowledge: Knowledge of principles, processes and practices associated with the General Industry, Construction and military safety profession. Extensive technical report writing knowledge required. Effective computer skills with Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, and Outlook programs is required.

4. Skills: Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Must have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all employee and management levels.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
1. Harsh Kuwait weather conditions.
2. Must not have existing medical conditions aggravated by constant exposure to intense climatic conditions.
3. Must be able to qualify for wearing a respirator.
4. Required to observe all safety and environmental policies in compliance with federal, military and local laws.

5. Office environment.  Work days:  Saturday through Wednesday.  Hours:  6 AM – 5PM, except Wednesday, 7 AM – 4 PM.  48 hour work week.
6. Must be able to lift 50 lbs unassisted on an infrequent basis.
