Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

Sterigenics, a world leader in medical device sterilization and advanced materials is currently seeking a self-starter, excellent communicator to join our oganization as an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist.

Reporting directly to the VP of Operations, this individual will be responsible for the supervision and implementation of all applicable environmental, health and safety programs for their assigned facilities. May also participate in corporate EH&S functional tasks as needed. This professional also has a dotted line reporting relationship into Corporate EH&S.

The major areas of responsibility include the following:
Keep informed of all applicable local, state and federal EH&S regulations and codes, which affect assigned facilities
Proactively promote safety in each facility by inspecting work sites, machinery, equipment, and work practices for hazards, and conformance with governmental and corporate standards
Identify unsafe conditions and determine appropriate corrective/preventive action in conjunction with supervision
Investigate and review investigations of all EH&S incidents and near misses to ensure root cause and preventive actions were properly identified
Review and recommend change to procedures that will prevent incidents and ensure environmental compliance
Maintain and track all reporting logs concerning employee accidents/incidents, required by Sterigenics or other applicable sources. (i.e., OSHA 301, 300 logs)
Oversee and ensure strict compliance with Sterigenics' EHS Standards and Procedures and Emergency Operations plans
Participate in EHS Audits, maintain records and prepare reports of findings, violations, and recommendations for corrective action
Working with the EHS department, develop and conduct training programs to promote environmental health and safety, safe operation of equipment, compliance with regulations and minimization of hazards
Responsible for the implementation of Air discharge Permit requirements including collecting necessary data for reporting requirements and notifying Corporate EHS of any changes to the facility which may affect the Permit
Assist General Managers in directing construction, operations, and maintenance activities as they relate to EHS

Educational Requirements and Experience:
Bachelors Degree, in environmental and/or safety field
3 or more years of experience in an EH&S role
Strong leadership and facilitation skills
