ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST II, (Water Permit Writer) #P0667; Roanoke, VA; Minimum Salary Starting At: $37,869. The Department of Environmental Quality, is seeking a qualified applicant with engineering experience in the design and operation of wastewater treatment facilities, water quality modeling, writing VPDES permits, and developing permit limits for toxic and conventional pollutants. Knowledge in land application/disposal of wastewater or sludge and best management practices for storm water pollution control. Apply computer aided statistical packages, stream assimilation models, and mixing zone analysis for development of permit limits for conventional and toxic pollutants. Review for approval sewage system design plans and specification, operation and maintenance manuals, sludge disposal plan, and inspect wastewater treatment facilities. Knowledge, skills and abilities in Civil, Chemical, Agriculture, or Environmental Engineering for wastewater treatment design and operation, State and Federal regulations used in writing permits and environmental law, water quality modeling, land application of waste water or sludge, chemistry, math and statistics, aquatic biology, public speaking, technical writing, and personal computer operations.
