Sr. Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Safety Advisor

The Sr. HSE Safety Advisor will play a key role in assisting the Alaska Leadership team achieve their goals of continuous improvement in safety performance.  In this role, the Sr. HSE Safety Advisor will require an experienced safety professional with technical expertise in industrial safety and fire protection as well as influencing and coaching skills.


Accountabilities Include:

Integrate key BP safety initiatives and group personal safety standards into accepted operational practices. 
Challenge traditional thinking and promote new ideas within the Strategic Performance Unit.
Develop and maintain an extensive range of regularly used contacts both inside and outside the organization.
Serve as BPs liaison with state and federal regulatory agencies responsible for health, safety and fire protection/prevention.
Use a wide range and depth of technical or specialized knowledge, providing technical leadership and expert advice to others.
Provide safety expertise and support to Alaska based Incident Management teams and Business Support teams during drills and actual events.
Provide guidance and expertise to the contractor safety initiatives developed by the Alaska Leadership team and HSE Leadership team.
Serve as a root cause specialist and participate in high potential or major incident investigations on request.
Arrange training and give timely coaching to foster learning and development with all levels of the organization.
Develop/write health and safety programs, policies and procedures.
Analyze health and safety data, reporting trends and provide consultation regarding corrective active measures.
Act as an agent for change to drive safety culture and behaviors to the next level.


Required Qualifications:
To be considered for the role of Sr. HSE Safety Advisor applicants must have:

Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than your current employer.
A minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering/Engineering Technology, Science or a related technical field or a Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety and Fire Protection.
A Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or an Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification with a clear track of working towards a CSP. 
The willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time in order to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
A minimum of 15 years of experience as a safety professional with strengths in industrial safety and fire protection.
The ability to make technical and/or business decisions based on an understanding of risk, which impact operations or results of a major project.
Good data management skills, including the ability to gather/analyze large volumes of data.
The ability to challenge traditional thinking and promote and demonstrate new ideas.


Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications the successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate:

Safety or health related certifications such as Certified Industrial Hygienists (CIH).
Experience in the oil industry, specifically exploration and production.
Strong Health, Safety and Environmental focus and commitment.
