Health, Safety and Environment Compliance Assurance Coordinator

Relocation Options:
Relocation will be in accordance with current BP guidelines.


BP Alaska currently operates 13 fields on the North Slope and owns a significant interest in 6 other producing fields.  Ensuring the integrity of the existing infrastructure is a key element in accessing this huge resource base.  Significant infrastructure renewal efforts are underway for pipelines and other areas.  Maintaining full compliance with all Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) requirements is a critical component of developing the new product streams and the infrastructure renewal.


The HSE Compliance Assurance Coordinator will focus on continual improvement of existing HSE compliance management systems with special focus on the compliance assurance process.


Accountabilities Include:

Continue development and implementation of a health and safety management system, including training and rollout of health and safety compliance matrix.
Maintain the environmental management system, including all activities associated with maintaining certification under the ISO 14001 standard.
Expand existing system to also address other requirements, such as BP standards.
Support development of improved processes for managing Department of Transportation compliance obligations.
Identify opportunities to more fully integrate existing compliance tools and systems.
Interface with North Slope operations to explore alternative systems, tools and processes to improve existing compliance management process.
Work closely with the Integrity Management team to ensure HSE and integrity management systems are aligned.
Prepare and present assessment reports on the status and effectiveness of the HSE compliance management system.
Develop or assist in developing the HSE monitoring program.
Plan and coordinate internal and external audits and inspections.
Lead or participate in audits, inspections and HSE reviews.
Develop protocols and inspection checklists sufficiently detailed to evaluate the compliance management process and compliance with applicable HSE requirements.
Review results of audits and inspections with Alaska leadership, operations personnel, and HSE staff.
Work with responsible parties to develop corrective and preventive actions for audit or inspection findings.


Required Qualifications:
To be considered for the role of HSE Compliance Assurance Coordinator applicants must have:

Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than your current employer.
The willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time in order to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in either oil and gas industry, HSE discipline or auditing.
A minimum of 1 year of experience with US HSE laws and regulations.
A minimum of 1 year of experience conducting audits and other assurance activities.
Strong interpersonal skills.
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.


Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications the successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate:

Certified Environmental Auditor, Certified Safety or Environmental Professional, or Certified Industrial Hygienist.
Understanding of and experience with design and implementation of compliance management systems.
A minimum of 1 year of experience supervising staff or contractors on HSE, engineering or audit projects.
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Science or a technical field.
