Position Description:
Chevron Global Gas is accepting online applications for the position of Electrical and Controls Engineer (0610-50080887) located in Bakersfield, CA through Oct 27, 2006.
This position is a safety sensitive position. Some travel required for project and training related activities. Required to be on-call for occasional after-hours and weekend work to support overhaul activities and equipment breakdowns. Relocation benefits may be a consideration.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The person filling this position will be instrumental in maintaining and improving personnel safety, plant production, reliability, and availability of seven California cogeneration and power plants. You will provide technical direction, project design expertise, project management, and economic analysis for maintenance activities, production, equipment modifications and upgrades, and performance improvements for the plants. You will provide troubleshooting expertise for low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems, and for boiler, gas turbine, steam turbine, and balance of plant control systems, and plant instrumentation systems. You will provide technical expertise to answer operational questions from plant Operators, Technicians, and Management.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintain a safe working environment. Mentor other personnel in electrical and plant safety. Apply lessons learned from other work groups and organizations.
2. Provide electrical, instrumentation, and controls engineering assistance to the operations and maintenance personnel at six existing cogeneration plants and one combined cycle power plant in California.
3. Will be on call for limited after-hours support of plant operational problems and outages.
4. Provide design and maintenance support of medium and high voltage power distribution systems.
5. Assist in the oversight and technical support for: a) plant/equipment outages, b) plant/equipment modifications, c) major equipment overhauls, and d) new plant construction.
6. Engineer and make control system program changes, and review and approve vendor changes, to gas turbine, steam turbine, and boiler control systems. Maintain control system databases.
7. Assist drafting group in maintaining all instrument and electrical drawings, instrument indexes, and other plant documentation.
8. Provide electrical, instrumentation, and controls engineering support for other engineering disciplines.
9. Generally responsible for small to medium engineering projects.
10. Will interface with regulatory agencies and other companies and will need to be familiar with facility contracts such as Power Purchase Agreements and Steam Sales Contracts to support business needs.
11. Assist with preparation of budgets, performance and cost forecasts, and project economic analysis.
12. Some project and training related travel is required.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Safe Operations: Ability to work safely, mentor other personnel in electrical and plant safety, and recognize unsafe conditions. Ability to apply lessons learned from other work groups and organizations.
- Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to analyze a variety of electrical and controls problems to quickly find the root cause and best solution. Experience in power plants, refineries, or other process plants a plus.
- Partnership Focus and Cross-Functional Teamwork: Builds and maintains good relationships with plant operators, technicians, business staff and other engineering groups. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to transfer information between work groups. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate activities in a multidiscipline team environment.
- Plant Performance Improvement: Ability to analyze plant operational and equipment test data, and troubleshoot plant problems, to discover areas of process improvement. Develop alternatives, propose and implement solutions to improve plant reliability and availability.
- Provide technical specifications for plant equipment modifications, new installations, maintenance projects, and new development projects.
- Assist in preparation of performance reports, production and cost forecasts, maintenance reports and procedures.
- Experience designing and implementing modifications to control system and PLC databases, logic and control programming.
- Experience with gas turbine generators, steam turbines, and HRSG's.
