Confections Category Sales Planning Manager
Location: San Leandro, CA
Reports to: Director of Trade Marketing
Direct Reports: 1 (Trade Marketing Analyst)
FLSA Status: (Exempt; Full-time)
Summary: Responsible for meeting or exceeding National sales and profit objectives for the confections business (FY ’06 Sales Objective $102 MM). Responsible for in-store presence (MAPS) results in all branded sales channels in which company operates. Uses strong interpersonal skills to work multi-functionally. Works as internal sales liaison across all function groups with emphasis on building productive working relationships with field sales, marketing, supply chain, and manufacturing. Shows strong analytical, thought leadership and ownership skills in development, deployment and implementation of annual business plans, category management concepts, selling tools and templates.
Key Job Responsibilities:
1) Confection Business Plan Owner
· Is an expert on the confection category from a consumer, customer and category perspective
· Works with marketing department on the annual Confection business plan, including the growth assumptions, timing and size of new item introductions
· Develops sales strategies to deliver confection business plan which are consistent with the overall company go to market model
· Seeks input from field sales directors, Team Leaders and Region Sales Managers in the development of confection strategies and business plans
· Communicates confection business plans twice annually at National Sales meetings and up to 6 times annually at Channel breakout meetings
· Responsible for the completeness and timeliness of business plans at the time of launch
· Measures confection business plan effectiveness by putting into place metrics for progress against priorities
· Responsible for Confection trade spending budgeting, monitoring and adjusting as needed
2) Develops Confection and other Company Selling Tools
· Provides Clear and consistent direction to the field
· Works to support the achievement of the confection business plan by putting the right Selling Tools into place, such as trade spending levels, trade organizers, analytical / predictive models, consumer or customer insights and others
· Ensures tools are in place in time to support initiative or other business plan launches. These could include shelving programs or tools, assortment templates, merchandising templates or standards
· Responds with urgency to customer and / or field opportunities
· From time to time, may be called on to lead the development of broader sales functional selling tools such as merchandising guidelines or other
3) Confection Forecast Owner
· Understands the brand by brand makeup of the company annual budget and the annual sales budget
· Ensures all confection items are available to forecast on the right timing. Also, ensures all discontinued Confection items are deleted from the workbooks
· Is a driver of the sales forecasting process and a leader of the consensus process by which a company forecast is generated
· Communicates productively and proactively with all functions any changes to the Confection forecast
4) Key Member of the Sales Organization
· Demonstrates passion, commitment and integrity in all activities

Education and/ Experience:College Degree – B.S. Required, M.B.A. preferred A minimum of 2 years in analytical role A minimum of 3 years Field Sales Management in Top Consumer Packaged Goods Company A minimum of 3 years direct selling experience / key account management experience at key/national accounts
