Mattel, Inc. is seeking a Designer to join its award-winning Pixel Chix and Girls Electronics design team!
Join one the fast growing categories in the toy industry ' cool electronic toys! Pixel Chix House and Car are award winning toys both domestically and in Europe, Canada and Australia. Pixel Chix is the #3 girls toy in the US and Canada and #1 in Australia and Spain! In France, Pixel Chix was names 2006 Toy of the Year and Electronic Toy of the Year. And we're growing!

We're seeking a creative, forward 'thinking Designer to help grow our product and find 'new places' for the Pixel Chix to live. The role is responsible for generating innovative, creative, and complete product concepts. This is accomplished through the rendering of 2-D illustration and complete 3-D preliminary models that fully express all aspects of the product concepts. Work on complex projects which involve storyboarding and developing play patterns for a growing line of cool electronic toys! Partner with talented Marketing, Animation, Engineering, Model Making and Development professionals at Mattel's Design Center at the World Headquarters in El Segundo, CA. Experience with video gaming is a huge plus!

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
' Generate creative concepts and translate into complete 3-D products; this includes presentations of concepts to Design, Marketing, and Executive management
' Render 2-D and 3-D preliminary models of complete product concepts for presentation to Design, Marketing, and Executive management; this includes working with the Model Makers, Engineers, Development Designers, Software Developers, Sound Engineers and Marketing.
' Communicate ideas and concepts both verbally and visually using story boards to animators. Must have sketching skills to deliver a play pattern 'story' to animators.
' Participate in the early stages of product development to insure that product can be 1) manufactured and 2) within cost and target profit margins.
' Partner with Development Designers and Cost Engineering to insure adherence to cost / target profit margin goals.
' Effectively participate in the early development phase of the product from Design Start through Executive Approval (EA).
' Continue to support the on going development of the product as necessary from EA through Production.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS REQUIRED
' Must possess developed Design Talent including Sense of Aesthetic and Market Appropriate Sensibility
' Developed Knowledge of current Toy, Fashion & Lifestyle Trends and Awareness of business as related to Marketing
' Proven ability to translate competencies above into Innovative 3-D Products
' Knowledge of various Raw Materials; textiles, plastics, etc. in addition to the Manufacturing Process
' Must understand and be familiar with Costing Principles
' Professional experience in related industries including: Toy Industry, Video Gaming, and Consumer Goods, etc.

EDUCATION REQUIRED
BS/BA with a minimum 2+ Years Professional Experience. Higher level position requires additional experience. Computer skills including Adobe Flash and Adobe After Effects a plus.
