General Description
Perform duties in keeping the kiln system running productively through the direction and instruction of employees in their daily routine, scheduling employees to equalize workloads and offering assistance.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be 18 years of age or older and possess all required documentation if not a U.S. citizen.
Technical Degree required. Lime and Cement experience a plus.
Excellent leadership, verbal and written communication skills are required.
One to three years related experience and/or training in supervision; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have a high level of integrity with a strong sense of ethics and professionalism.
Must be computer literate.
Must be physically capable of performing all required duties and accessing all plant locations.
Actively support the training and development of personnel.
Interface effectively with management and staff at all organizational levels.
Must be capable of working shift work, overtime or seven days a week, if needed.
Must be able to work in high places and confined spaces.
Must be capable of working in dusty and noisy areas with provided safety equipment.
Must be able to work outside under hot, cold or wet weather conditions.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesMust comply with company, state and governmental health and safety regulations at all times.
Comply with CLC General and safety rules.
Supervise hourly employees and operations of plant.
Be able to efficiently do all different types of manual work in the kiln system.
Maintain a safe environment for all employees.
Read and understand utility, operator, laborer, and scale task-training sheets.
Conduct weekly safety meetings.
Train and instruct employees in safe effective job performance.
Understand computer data, monitor and maintain operating efficiencies, quality and maximize
production.
Complete needed operating reports, etc.
Maintain good labor relations.
Monitor and know how to control water levels and pH levels.
Maintain close contact with subordinates and having daily meeting.
Maintain a good image of the company to the public.
Know basic variables feed, speed, fuel, air and kiln controls.
Know how to check PLC’s power, communication, fuses, etc.
Know how to identify type of brick or scale if it exits kiln.
Know numbering of bins in plant and what is stored in them.
Use as little as possible of the very costly fuel – natural gas.
Maintain the book for ISO 9002 – enter needed entries.
Working knowledge on how to handle coal ring—effectively.
In a power outage or kiln drive problem, ensure kiln is turning if it is hot and is raining.
In an emergency situation, know what to do and be a leader.
Ensure bag house inlet temp is kept below maximum.
Understand air conveyor system and keep operational.
Have good working knowledge of kiln operation.
Know how to evaluate and react to a hot spot on kiln.
Understand bag houses, common problems, variables, how to avoid problems and how to
enter safely.
Understand unique problems and dangers of entering and working in coal dust bag houses.
Know difference between dolo and HiCal and identity of rock.
Know and use good and clear communications.
Know and use proper kiln heat-up and cool-down schedules.
Understand kiln temp swings and how it effects refractories, etc.
Understand coal mill problems and how to keep it operational.
Read and understand QC plan.
Read and understand PM program.
Understand MP2 and how to enter work orders and requisitions.
Know and use proper purchasing techniques.
Read and understand operating permits and applications.
Understand budgetary and cost related items and statements.
Know and understand instrumentation devices, analyzers, etc. and basics of these
operations.
