JOB SUMMARY
Traveling Line Crew Helper is an entry-level physically demanding position that requires heavy manual labor. Extensive training is offered to provide employees knowledge/skills required for advancement to Apprentice and Journeymen classifications. This position assists in the construction and maintenance of Alabama Power transmission line and substation facilities. Experience in a physically demanding work environment and ability to work with all types of tools is desired. Crews support the bottom two-thirds of the state, which requires extensive travel throughout the territory.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Previous experience in the area of manual labor, construction, maintenance, electrical or working on heavy equipment, preferred
A vailable for extensive overnight travel during the work week throughout the bottom two-thirds of the state of
Alabama ; able to work overtime, call out, weekends and holidays as required
A bility to obtain a CDL (Commercial Driver's License) within 6 months of employment (certain conditions can cause applicants to not be able to obtain a license due to Federal standards)
Individuals must demonstrate the ability and desire to work safely and display ethical behavior at all times
Transmission Lines Helpers work up to heights of 200 feet / Substation Helpers work up to heights of 40 feet
Ability to perform physically demanding activities while working outside in all weather conditions
Operate power tools such as chain saws and jackhammers; ability to use both small and large hand tools
Shift: Four 10 hour days (Monday through Thursday) per week, possible overtime as well

Requirements for employment as a HELPER include :
Must be at least 18 years of age
P ossess a valid drivers license
Available to travel overnight during the entire work week throughout the bottom two-thirds of the state, and able to work overtime and call out.
Pay for a HELPER position is based on an hourly rate with possible overtime pay. Starting pay is $12.96 per hour (new pay rate as of August 2006) plus per diem (travel allowance) with the opportunity for two raises a year given expected performance. Per Diem is paid in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreement.
