Software Engineer needed for a contract to hire position in Osborne, Kansas

 

This position is replacing a person who has been with the company for 16 years.  He is very dedicated to the company and will help the person that we recruit for this position to learn the legacy software and firmware and will be available for as long as needed for consultation.It is this client's purpose to actually find two people to replace this one person so that they have some redundancy in the position, to handle a growing list of software tasks, and to share the inevitable customer support work between the two of them.They will be looking for an experienced person first and then for a more junior engineer to fill the second position after they have become comfortable with the first hire. 

 

Description and Duties

This position develops PC and/or web-based applications to manage data and hardware for systems that manage livestock feeding, weighing, watering, and many other automatic care functions including recordkeeping using handheld data collection devices and RFID technologies.  This person creates interfaces between software, hardware, and embedded systems using proprietary serial communication protocols and communicates frequently with both internal and external customers to deliver new features and functions required for quality animal care.  This position includes participation in technical support activities both over the telephone and at key customer farm and ranch sites worldwide.  Some travel is required. 

Qualifications:
Valuable skills include the design, specification, and operation of software that automates livestock care.  Microsoft Windows programming with database applications is required and experience in a Delphi programming environment is a strong advantage but not mandatory.   The ability to write embedded code using ‘C’ language for both Motorola/Freescale and PIC processors is also desired. Multi-drop serial communications experience is also a plus.  Completion of a B.S. degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent combination of technical training and experience is required.  Good communication skills and problem-solving ability and the talent to manage multiple tasks in a rapidly evolving industry are needed.  An agriculture background and production livestock experience is highly desired.
