Sr Environmental Health & Safety Engineer II

Job Description: This Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) position with industrial hygiene qualification and experience will be r esponsible for occupational health, safety and environmental programs and projects in a team environment. Support for multiple customers on a daily basis is required. Typical duties will involve the following:


- Assume the role of Laser Safety Officer for the site and be the liaison between EHS and the laser customers.
- Assume the role of Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for the site and be the liaison between EHS and the radioactive material and X-ray customers.
- Assume the role of Electromagnetic Energy Environment Criteria (EEEC) Manager for the site and be the liaison between EHS and the RF customers.
- Advance environmental, health and safety performance improvement in support of company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement environmental, health and safety management systems to integrate EHS into the business operations.
- Evaluate employee exposure to potential hazards and interpret data to determine appropriate controls to eliminate hazardous exposures.
- Understand and communicate basic sample and survey gathering data to oversee interns in industrial hygiene field activity.
- Interpret federal, state and local laws, regulations, and orders as they apply to environmental practices and regulatory reporting.
- Recommend and develop appropriate strategies to address company safety, health and environmental policies/standards and regulatory requirements.
- Investigate and resolve issues, questions, or concerns received from within the company, among outside customers, regulatory agencies, etc.
- Identify hazardous workplace conditions and take appropriate industrial hygiene samples/measurements of physical and/or chemical exposures, recommend controls and/or personal protective equipment.
- Assume responsibility for developing/maintaining/advancing specific EHS program areas and supporting EHS needs for assigned buildings/organizations.
- Support the development of injury/incident investigations.
- Conduct office and industrial ergonomics evaluations.
- Support emergency response activities as required.
- Develop and implement programs designed to increase employee awareness and knowledge of compliance policies.
- Job may require entry into potentially hazardous environments for evaluation purposes.



Required Skills:


- Extensive knowledge and the application of Cal/OSHA regulations and ANSI Standards.
- Extensive knowledge and the application of the principals of industrial hygiene.
- Ability to diagnose problems, accurately develops appropriate alternatives, and implements practical and effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Ability to provide clear, concise, and effective verbal communications.
- Well-developed written communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to plan, organize, delegate, and follow-up on work flow to meet departmental goals and objectives.
- Good written and oral communication skills, and have experience in giving presentations.
- Proven ability to use email, and Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Project.
- Ability to obtain a Secret clearance



Desired Skills:
- 7-10 years experience in managing and controlling Laser and Radio Frequency hazards in Electronics or Aerospace environment.
- Experienced in developing and conducting creative EHS training.
- Able to comprehend and calculate complex laser and RF safety formulas.
- Ability to read and understand architectural, electrical, mechanical, structural, and civil engineering drawings.
- Existing Secret clearance.

Required Education (including Major): Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Industrial/Safety Engineering, or related field, and a minimum of seven years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety with increasing experience managing health and safety programs.



Desired Education: Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene or Master’s in Safety Engineering preferred.
