Environmental Health & Safety Representative
BASIC FUNCTION:
Independently performs research/scientific/technical/engineering related projects or experiments.
ORGANIZATION LOCATION:
Typically found in a research, scientific, or technical area of the business.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED/QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a minimum of a Bachelors degree in a physical science or life science plus three to five years relevant experience beyond formal education or equivalent total experience.
Good knowledge of the principles of chemical, physical, biochemical, or technical techniques utilized within industry project work. Capable of articulating these principles.
Familiar with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and FDA and international regulations relevant to project work.
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work in groups and to accomplish set goals.
Takes ownership and accepts responsibility for actions and decisions.
Requires ability to develop solutions to technical problems of moderate to intermediate complexity, make appropriate decisions, and meet time constraints.
Established with project management skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Independently designs and performs project work or experiments, analyzes data, and reports results. Coordinates ongoing validation and compliance programs.
Interfaces with industry representatives and customers on routine matters.
May give work direction to other technical resources and technicians.
Helps to develop and implement plans and procedures to comply with applicable local, state, federal, and international regulations. Modifies, updates, and executes established programs to achieve and maintain a state of compliance.
Performs accurate data entry into notebooks or computer databases. Interprets and analyzes scientific data into product reports and summaries.
Develops and validates analytical techniques, written procedures, standard protocols to support research, scientific, technical, or engineering-related disciplines.
Participates in project leadership responsibilities such as report writing, planning, scheduling, and cost control.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED/QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental health, or a related discipline or equivalent relevant experience, plus an additional three to five years environmental health, industrial hygiene, and/or safety experience in an industrial environment. One to three years experience at responsibility level described in this job description.
Good knowledge of federal and state occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Fully proficient and knowledgeable in the use of state of the art industrial hygiene monitoring equipment including field calibration.
Qualified by certification and by experience to supervise emergency response activities.
Competent in ergonomic evaluation of office, manufacturing, and manual materials handling tasks.
Skilled in accident investigation techniques, causal analysis, and occupational epidemiology.
Experienced in employee education and training methods, curriculum development, and text preparation.
Familiar with FDA and relevant worldwide regulations such as GMP, IDE, PMA, 510(k), OSHA, and ISO.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participates as a key member of the Environmental Steering Committee, which provides regulatory interpretation of environmental, occupational safety, and hazardous materials transportation laws and advises the organization on new requirements and their impacts.
Evaluates employee exposures to chemical, physical, and biological hazards using a variety of instrumentation. Interprets results and implements control measures.
Trains workforce on a wide variety of occupational health, safety, and environmental topics.
Performs work-site analysis of ergonomic risk factors. Analyzes job content and identifies solutions for stresses in office, production, and materials handling situations. Establishes specifications and criteria for ergonomically sound processes and procedures. Works with management of specific groups to implement these criteria into good work practices.
Collects data, performs calculations, and generates reports on injury/illness experience, waste generation, waste minimization, air emissions, and water quality to local, state, and federal agencies.
Revises emergency, contingency, and containment plans for pollution control to reflect changes in operations, conditions, and materials employed.
Audits vendors, facilities, and operations relative to regulatory compliance.
Assists customers, employees, and public emergency response personnel with situations involving Gambro products or hazardous materials.
Interacts with and escorts representatives of OSHA, EPA, CDH, etc., during inspections and other compliance activities.
Serves as an advisor to business management on environmental, ergonomic, and safety issues. Helps prioritize and bring perspective to issues and presents solution alternatives.
