Director of Communication and Public Affairs

The Public Information & Communications Director will operate within and be supported by the Chief Executive Officer and will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



1. The Director will be familiar with the District's goals and mission, the CEO’s objectives and the Board's direction.  The Public Information & Communication Director will organize, implement and monitor internal and external communication programs to support and promote the District's direction.

 

2. The Director will develop and improve upon current public information programs.  The position will act as a liaison with the media.  The Public Information & Communications Director will assist the Chief Executive Officer in distribution of information of district-wide importance.

 

3. The Director will assist in crisis response, act as a communications consultant to the Board and Chief Executive Officer, and at the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, and act as District spokesperson.  The position will assist with speeches and media responses.

 

4. The Director will consult with schools and develop news releases, media programs, and feature materials.  The position will direct the publication and dissemination of internal newsletters.

 

5. The Director will act as District representative to community founded committees at the direction of the Superintendent, (e.g., Family Reunion Committee, Ad Hoc Community Committee).  The position will publish district events calendars and coordinate District participation in community events, (e.g., "Weekend at the Mall", "Family Reunion", "and Volunteer Fairs").

 

6. The Director will work with the Instructional Division to develop cable television programs, schedule cablecasts, maintain a televised bulletin board and expand the District's presence through cable access.

 

7. The Director will assure prompt responses to inquiries, concerns and complaints from public groups and individuals, and staff.

 

8. The Director will maintain a speakers bureau.

 

9. The Director will network with area realtors and welcome visitors and prospective district families.

 

10. The Director will compose an annual District report and accompanying building level reports.

 

11. The Director will promote and coordinate public awards and recognitions for staff, students, and volunteers.

 

12. The Director will encourage the community to actively participate in the programs and events RUSD has to offer.

 

13. The Director will communicate the value students receive based on all the initiatives that exist at RUSD.

 

14. The Director will establish communication and marketing guidelines.

 

15. The Director will explore other media sources to improve communications mix to all in the community.

 

16. The Director will establish a means on measuring how successful a communications initiative was to both internal and external stakeholders.

 

17. The Director will perform all other duties as assigned.
