Plant Controller

Summary

 

Provide leadership and coordination of plant, financial planning, cost accounting and budget management functions.  Ensure company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles. 

 

Primary Responsibilities

 Direct and coordinate plant financial planning, costing and budget management functions.  Develop product costing on new products, and re-cost products as needed. Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of the plant and departments. Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget. Oversee daily operations of the accounting department. Manage the preparation of financial outlook and financial forecasts. Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal plant reporting requirements. Work with department managers and corporate staff to develop three year business plans for the plant. Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures. Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives. Serve as primary legislative liaison relative to the plant financial issues.  Coordinate with CFO on financial and operational audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements. Other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

 Knowledge of cost accounting, accounting, budgeting, and lean manufacturing principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.  Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.  Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.  Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.  Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis.  Work requires professional written and verbal communication and excellent interpersonal skills.  Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight time frames and simultaneously manage several projects.  Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings. This is normally acquired through a combination of the completion of a Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting, ten to 15 years of experience in a senior-level plant and/or cost accounting position, with a CPA preferred. Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.
