Controller

Our client, a Top 20 Mortgage Banking, is currently looking for an experienced controller.  Their primary business focus is the origination and servicing of A-paper loans. They offer a wide range of product, including FHA/VA, Conventional fixed and adjustable as well as Jumbo and construction niche products.  They are only considering candidates with substantial experience in mortgage accounting and finance.

 

Expectations for this position include:

 
Manage the monthly financial reporting of the Mortgage division including preparation, verification and analysis; assuring that senior management is kept aware of any financial conditions or circumstances effecting or likely to effect the mortgage division.
Coordinate the month-end and year-end close process in accordance with corporate and best practices accounting methods and timetables.
Perform GAAP review and analysis.
Monitor the monthly reconciliation of finance related balance sheet accounts and ensure that outstanding reconciling items are cleared timely.
Implement process improvement development techniques where appropriate.
Record allocations to Region Managers and Production Administration.
Record Interest Margin Allocation
Manage Sarbanes Oxley review and certification process.
Coordinate all audit requests/requirements with appropriate managers.
Ensure that all bank accounts and warehouse lines are reconciled timely and that funds are accounted for in accordance with established guidelines.
Review the internal accounting controls of the Mortgage Company to ensure compliance with corporate, State and Federal, SEC and mortgage banking regulatory policies and procedures.
Measure and report productivity levels for staffing and other benchmarking criteria, ensuring they are within the guidelines set forth in the annual business-operating plan.
Meets with direct staff and various departments in the business to provide leadership, motivation and direction to attain business goals. Coordinates cross-training efforts and contingency back-up plans.
Serve as project leader for key initiatives as assigned.
Provides support for all software applications utilized within Mortgage Finance. 

Required Candidate Credentials:

 
8-10 years financial management experience in a diverse range of accounting functions, with a minimum of five in a controller/CFO capacity with full accountability.
Specific expertise and/or exposure to all facets of the mortgage accounting process, including technology.
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with a Master of Business Administration in Finance preferred.
CPA required.
A high level of proficiency with technology, particularly Excel, Access, Power Point, TM1, RF/Spectrum, ASAP, Crystal Reports, Fidelity.
Knowledge of SEC and mortgage banking related regulatory accounting policies and practices.
Familiarity with appropriate tax laws is a plus.
A demonstrated ability to work with and through people.
Strong decision making abilities and good business judgment.
Ability to work independently.
Proven analytical and business skills with a conservative risk reward orientation.
